Spring In Navy: 9 Ways To Style A Matching Top and Skirt + [VIDEO]

The days are warming up, that means Spring is just around the corner! Don’t you just love the spring season? I just love the spring flowers, green grass and sunny days. I also love spring outfits, the fresh, lightweight fabrics and textured layers!

I found a lovely matching top and skirt at Talbots and wanted to see how many ways I could style it. I added a few coordinating pieces from their New Arrivals, plus a tank, and one of their wardrobe staples from my closet and created 9 outfits!

Here is the Band Collar Button Front Shirt and Piper Pleated Skirt, both in a lovely navy and white pencil butterfly pattern. The pattern reminds me of a beautiful open meadow in the spring with butterflies flying all around! The Band Collar Button Front Shirt is a straight, relaxed silhouette with a curved bottom hem, v-neck band collar, button down style. The Piper Pleated Skirt is a midi-length, a-line silhouette with a side zip and a removable fabric tie belt in the same pattern.

I also added this Vachetta Bucket Bag in “Havana Tan” and the same color Leather Belt in “Havana Tan” to complete the outfits! I absolutely love this bag and belt in this color! The Vachetta Bucket Bag reminds me of a quiet-luxury style with a top handle, snap closure and shoulder/crossbody strap. You can carry this bag on your shoulder, crossbody and you can remove the long strap and carry it by the top handle! The Leather Belt is the perfect width to wear with pants, skirts, shorts and dresses! I’m so glad I added these two accessories to my wardrobe!

For size reference: my height is 5’9″ and I weigh approximately 175 lbs., have an hourglass figure and am mid-size. For tops, I typically wear a size Large (12), depending on the brand and fit of the top. For bottoms, my usual size is a 12, waist 31; a 10-inch high rise fits my waist the best and a 28 inch inseam falls at my ankle, 30 inch inseam is full-length on me. My shoe size is 9 medium or 40EU.

Here is how I styled the Band Collar Button Front Shirt and Piper Pleated Skirt several ways. I also styled the other pieces together to create more outfits!

Outfit #1

The Band Collar Button Front Shirt is a relaxed fit and the Piper Pleated Skirt is a midi length. Since the top and skirt are the same pattern, when you wear them together they look like a dress! These Cayden Suede Block Heel Sandals are very similar to the ones I’m wearing and is a neutral color you can wear with practically anything!

Outfit #2

In this outfit, I’m wearing the Band Collar Button Front Shirt / Piper Pleated Skirt, plus the Button Cuff Jean Jacket in “Rinse Wash”, Leather Belt in “Havana Tan” and the Vachetta Bucket Bag in “Havana Tan”. I removed the fabric belt from the skirt and added the Leather Belt for contrast.

Outfit #3

When I saw this Ruched Cuff Crewneck Tee in “White” I knew I needed to add it to my closet ASAP! It’s the look of a tee with ruching on the sleeves, which elevates the tee. This tee so soft, 100% cotton and comes in several colors! You may want to add a few of these in different colors to your wardrobe! These Sloan Mary Jane Mesh Flats are very similar to the shoes I’m wearing; I love the light “Pearl Pink” color and the “Silver” color is lovely too!

I added the denim jacket…

For this outfit, I swapped the Ruched Tee with the Pima Cotton Bateau Neck Tank in “Indigo Blue” and added the sandal heels.

Outfit #6

I swapped the skirt for these Wide Ankle Twill Pants in “White”. The material is so soft and are slightly stretchy with the cotton/modal/spandex blend. I really like the wide leg style and ankle length hem! They come in other colors as well!

Outfit #7

I changed up this outfit a bit by wearing the Band Collar Button Front Shirt unbuttoned over the tank for a casual look. With this look, the shirt looks like a jacket!

Outfit #8

Now, who’s ready to go on vacation? This look reminds me of a vacation-worthy outfit you could wear on a spring cruise! The Band Collar Button Front Shirt is easy to wear tied at the waist with pants, a skirt or shorts.

Outfit #9

A monochrome outfit isn’t boring when you add the right accessories! I’m wearing the Ruched Cuff Crewneck Tee in “White”, Wide Ankle Twill Pants in “White” and similar Cayden Suede Block Heel Sandals, then added the Leather Belt and Vachetta Bucket Bag both in the “Havana Tan” color. These Sloan Mary Jane Raffia Flats in “Havana Tan” or Millie Straps Nappa Block Heel Sandals in “Havana Tan” would look great also!
