Travel Light: 2 Weeks In a Carry-on (Winter Edition)
Pack just a few items only in a carry-on and have 2 weeks of outfits!
When you go on a trip, does it seem like you overpack? Or, do you have to carry two big suitcases to hold everything? Before I started using a capsule wardrobe, I used to pack complete outfits, with an extra outfit to spare! When I would go on a vacation, I would pack so much, that my suitcase would hardly close.
That all changed when I started utilizing a capsule wardrobe for my closet. My whole way of thinking about how I dressed changed for the better, including how I pack for a trip! Since my closet is more efficient now, packing for a vacation is so simple.
I realized just how efficient I packed for a trip, when we went on vacation last year for 6 days. I carried about 4 tops, 3 bottoms and two pairs of shoes. My husband was amazed at how few clothes I packed. He asked, “Is that going to be enough clothes for the trip?” While we were on vacation, he said he was amazed at how my outfits looked different everyday.
I’m going to share with you how you can pack just a few items for a 2-week vacation, and have many outfit possibilities. All of the clothes, shoes and accessories, plus MORE items, are included in The French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe e-Book: Winter 2018 Collection. Transform your wardrobe by turning just 23 clothes and shoes into 100 outfits! You’ll find out several shopping sources for each item in the capsule, 100 complete outfit ideas (including accessories), packing guide (10 outfit ideas from only 7 clothes and shoes), 8 ways to save at least 50% off retail and more!
In The French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe e-Book: Winter 2018 Collection, there are 3 regular-size and 2 plus-size shopping sources each for all clothes, as well as 3 shopping sources each for the shoes and accessories!
Be sure to see my other packing guides!
Packing List Items:
striped top (plus-size)
white tee (plus-size)
camel sweater (plus-size)
gray sweater (plus-size)
black top (plus-size)
gray cardigan (plus-size)
beige cardigan (plus-size)
blue jeans (plus-size)
black jeans (plus-size)
black leggings (plus-size)
black bag (budget option)
black boots
black booties
necklace
scarf
camel coat (not pictured, but carry to keep warm!)
The secret to having many different outfits to wear is packing clothes with neutral, solid colors, with maybe 1 or 2 patterned tops. Colors like black, white or ivory and gray coordinate well together, so if you pack clothes with those colors, you’ll be able to create many outfits. Because of all the neutral colors, the color tones coordinate well together, giving you many outfit possibilities.
Since this packing guide is for two weeks, you can wash several of the items after a couple of wears to freshen them up while you are on your trip. They can be washed, hung up to dry in your hotel room, and they’ll be dry and ready to wear the next day!

For this packing guide, I included only 1 top with a stripe pattern. A striped top is one of the core closet essentials you need in your closet. It’s the most versatile, patterned item to have, because it goes with so many other clothes. I’ve featured 2 outfits in this post, but you can find 100 outfit ideas using these items plus a few more inThe French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe e-Book: Winter 2018 Collection!
I love the way you post pics of each item and then together in an outfit like this…you should do a course for bloggers on how to do this 🙂
Lindsay,
Thank you for your comment! I have a Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store that has complete wardrobe plans for each season, along with 100 outfit ideas in each eBook. The eBooks show how to create a capsule wardrobe using a set number of clothes and shoes, then shows all the outfit combinations that can be created. Here’s a link to the eBook Store: https://classyyettrendy.com/ebook-shop/
Love some of your combos but here is my worry. I have had a real problem with the sleeves of so many sweaters being so narrow that you can’t get long sleeved tshirt under them. Have you had that issue? Any tips or tricks?
Thanks.
I am so bad at packing! I just love your posts! So inspired to change the way it works!
Jenifer, I have experienced buying a couple of sweaters online with small sleeves over the years and had to send them back. I’ve found that if I shop at stores that show how the sweater fits on a person that it helps me determine how it will fit on me.
I would love to see a post on packing for going on a caribien cruise in winter.
I am in absolute heaven that I found your pin! My husband & I are going on a 2 wk European vacation (Sept 2018) & your guide will save this “over packers “ dilemma of what to bring. Now to choose which ebook(s) I need for everyday life!
Hello! Any color suggestions to replace the camel sweater? I cannot wear that particular shade. Maybe red or green?
Thank you.
Carla, you could substitute an ivory cable or solid sweater, beige sweater and yes, a red or green sweater would be lovely too!
Do you have anymore posts re: Travel Light 2 Weeks in A Carry on Winter edition?
I’d like all the details re: outfits made from these clothing pieces for a possible upcoming trip to GA in late November.
If all goes well, I’d like to look into purchasing the entire capsule ebook.
Thanks in advance!
