Sweaters Mix and Match Outfits: 9 Pieces = 27 Outfits
Sweaters are a favorite top to wear in the Fall season and they are so easy to style! Sweaters look great dressed up with pants and skirts and also casual with jeans.
I took 9 sweaters in neutral colors from my own Fall capsule wardrobe to create a mini capsule! You can see everything in my own Fall capsule wardrobe here. These 9 pieces are great to wear in other outfits as well, plus you can add layers like a trench coat, wool coat and a piped sherpa coat and make even more outfits!
I also shared this sweater outfit mix and match today on my Instagram @classyyettrendy. Follow along on @classyyettrendy for more outfit ideas and see what I wear from my capsule wardrobe!
The idea for this blog post came from my most popular capsule wardrobe eBook, Simplified Style®: The Dressy & Casual Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe. Simplified Style® is a complete classic and neutral-color for all 4 seasons of the year. It includes over 400 outfit ideas, wardrobe layouts for all seasons, outfit calendars, plus more!

Here are the 9 pieces I posted on my Instagram @classyyettrendy…
THE TOPS (left to right):
Gray Cashmere Sweater – I added this sweater this season to my closet. It is a classic piece from J. Crew and is so soft! It comes in many other colors to choose from. I bought a size Large for a bit of a relaxed fit.
Striped Cotton Sweater – This is a new Conway sweater from Madewell, although it is sold out at the moment. When I bought it, it was fully in stock. I hope Madewell will restock this sweater soon as it is a lovely sweater. Since it is a relaxed fit, I sized down to a small. I also found the Conway sweater at Shopbop and on Madewell’s store on Amazon. This style of striped sweater is also at Alex Mill and at Reformation (cashmere). The Goodthreads store on Amazon also has this lovely striped sweater at a budget price point.
Taupe Cashmere Sweater – This is an investment sweater, but I didn’t pay full price! I saved money by purchasing it in the Jenni Kayne Labor Day Sale. Whenever I buy foundation pieces for my capsule wardrobe, I “choose well and buy once”, so I almost always wait for a sale or use a coupon code and shop with intention. Also love this oatmeal color cashmere sweater at a $50 price point!
THE BOTTOMS (left to right):
Black Jeans – I have had this pair of jeans several seasons and love them! They are the AG Cigarette Black Jeans. The denim material on these jeans is very comfortable and have a bit of stretch to them so they move with you. If you are looking for black jeans with a budget price point, I recommend these J. Crew Factory Straight Black Jeans.
Blue Slim Straight Jeans – These jeans are versatile so you can wear them with many styles of shoes: boots, flats, loafers, heels, etc. They are the AG Mari Jeans. You can see how they fit in this post from yesterday, My Favorite Fall Uniform. If you need a pair of blue slim straight jeans at a budget price point, I have seen these Vintage Stretch Jeans at J. Crew Factory and they are very nice!
Cream Color Straight Jeans – I prefer not to wear white jeans after Labor Day, so I opt for cream color jeans! They are a nice color alternative to black and blue jeans and coordinate well with so many tops. These are the Express High Waist Straight Modern Jeans in the “swan” color.
THE SHOES (left to right):
Black Loafers – This style of shoe is a classic and timeless style and the black color goes with so many pants and jeans. My exact pair are the Gucci Brixton Horsebit Loafers, but these Sam Edelman Lorraine Bit Loafers are a very similar style at a much lower price point. You could also wear a pair of Black Ballet Flats with these outfits!
Cognac mules – I love how the cognac color on these mules goes with so many items in my closet! These are the Sam Edelman Linnie Bit Mules in the “saddle” color and are very comfortable! I can walk in them all day with no problems as with so many pairs of Sam Edelman shoes, which are one of my most favorite brands of shoes.
Cap Toe Flats – These are my 4th pair of Rothy’s shoes in my closet. I also have the The Point flats in “big cat” and “driftwood spot” (also in my Fall capsule wardrobe) and “navy”. I absolutely LOVE these shoes! All Rothy’s shoes are very comfortable and they are sustainable too, since they are made with recycled plastic bottles. These are The Square Flats in the “tuxedo” color. The style looks like Chanel cap toe flats, but these are a fraction of the cost!

I styled these 9 pieces in 9 outfits, but you can make more outfit combinations using these same pieces! You can add layers like a trench coat, wool coat and a piped sherpa coat and make even more outfits!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Actually 27 outfits. Each outfit with the different shoes. For example gray aweater/black jeans with each pair of shoes is 3 outfits, wtc.
Thank you, Leanne, for this classic post! I’m thinking about the Rothy’s you’ve linked to. Do they have any arch support? I’m not seeing that info easily on their website. Thanks again!
Thanks Leanne, Love these looks!
