1. Rely On Wardrobe Staples

Parisian women favor classic, elegant style over short term trendy looks. Dressing like a Parisian means sticking to what’s tried and true in fashion.   Some French women’s closets are small, so they rely on fewer items in classic styles. Jennifer L. Scott, who was a foreign exchange student in France, goes more into this in her book, “Lessons From Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living In Paris”.

2. Less is More

French women wear minimal makeup, jewelry and accessories. They don’t flaunt logos, expensive items, or wear distracting colors. Think simple and minimal when it comes to jewelry for example — small earrings and a bracelet, or a necklace but no earrings. Skincare is important to French women and they wear minimal makeup, like a bit of color on the lips and rarely wear eyeshadow. They prefer natural beauty over a lot of makeup. Their nails are usually kept on the shorter side and they will wear clear or neutral nail polish.

3. Wear Mostly Neutral Colors

Many French women wear color and pattern as accents, rather than head to toe in their outfits. Neutral colors, like black, navy, gray, white, ivory, beige, etc. look chic and polished and they coordinate with other neutrals beautifully. Neutral colors are timeless and are often used as the building blocks of an outfit.

4. Combine Casual and Elevated

When French women put together an outfit, they wear their wardrobe staples they are comfortable in and feel great wearing, plus add a statement piece like a scarf, elevated belt or statement shoes. This is how French women’s outfits look chic and polished!
