Turn 26 pieces into 95 outfits
In my series of Capsule Wardrobe E-Books, I explain in detail what a capsule wardrobe is, how you can create one for yourself, what to buy, what to avoid buying, all the pieces in that capsule wardrobe for the season, several sources where to find the pieces, DOZENS of outfit ideas, plus extras! Here are 5 tips for a successful capsule wardrobe that will work for you everytime!
1. Make sure all pieces coordinate
This is what makes a capsule wardrobe work! To be able to create many outfits and make the most use of your wardrobe, all the pieces need to coordinate with one another and function well.
2. Stick with mostly neutral colors
Make sure that your color palette is mostly neutral colors, like black, cream, white or navy. Those colors are considered “base” colors that go with almost all colors. Black is a popular base color in the fall and winter seasons. When we think of white, we think summer, so that’s a popular base color for the summer season. Navy is associated with the spring, so that’s a good base color for that season. Of course, cream looks great in any season.
3. Include Mostly Solid Colors
If your clothes are solid colors they will all go together. If you want to incorporate a patterned piece or two (like florals, houndstooth, etc), just make sure that pattern will go with all the other pieces in the wardrobe. I like to include pattered pieces that are either a subtle pattern or are the same color palette as my other pieces in the capsule wardrobe.
4. Always include a few essential pieces
What are “essential pieces”? Essentials go with just about everything and can be worn dressy or casual. Examples include: a white button-up shirt, black blazer, gray pencil skirt, denim jacket, etc. These are must-have pieces that will make your capsule wardrobe work every time!
5. Stay within your budget by shopping for only necessary pieces
Another function of a capsule wardrobe is that it saves you money! By having a limited number of clothes and shoes in your closet, you can eliminate unnecessary spending. The time to shop is when you need to replace a worn piece in your capsule wardrobe or add a new piece for the next season’s capsule wardrobe.
There you have it! Now you know what makes a capsule wardrobe successful! Use these tips to help make your capsule wardrobe successful every time!
