Old Navy Fitting Room Spring Reviews

| | |

Wednesday I headed to Old Navy to look at their Spring clothes.  I have received several questions from you all on my opinion about Old Navy’s Spring line.  They have several tops, bottoms and dresses online that have caught my eye!  The styles, colors and patterns all look beautiful this season.  I thought I would go there, pick out a few favorite items and try them on for you all to see!  Let me add that this post is not sponsored, as I did this review to share with you all.

Old Navy’s clothes are great for the budget shopper!  Their prices are reasonable, the clothes are fun to wear and they have good Core Closet Essentials for a capsule wardrobe.  In being an Old Navy shopper for many years, I’ve found that their sizes are a bit inconsistent and some of their clothes are not made as well as others they sell.  Some of the fabrics are very much see through, thin and some of the fabric colors are different.  My favorite way to shop is online to get the best deals, save time and to avoid in-store distractions,  But, when shopping at Old Navy, I like to sometimes shop in the store so I can try on their clothes and inspect how well an item is made before I make a purchase.

Since I’m using what is in my Spring capsule wardrobe, I wasn’t planning on purchasing anything for Spring.  I went to our local Old Navy just to review a few of my favorite items in-store for you all!  It was enjoyable to go through the store, pick which items I would choose for a capsule wardrobe, and review the items I found!

First up is this Striped Floral Lace-up Top in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size,  and the Rockstar 24/7 medium rinse jeans in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size.  I loved the style of this top and the flutter embroidered sleeves are so feminine!  Being that my favorite base color to wear in the warm months is navy, I just had to try this on!  The striped floral pattern would be great to wear both in the Spring and Summer months.  You can wear this with so many bottoms, including jeans, pants, a denim or cottom skirt and shorts.  I’m wearing a Medium for size reference.  I bought this top to go in my Summer capsule wardrobe.  This is the first I’ve seen of these jeans.  The denim wash is a good color and the fact they are a “legging version jean” made me curious as to how they would fit.  They have stretch but are so comfortable!  Being that I have wider hips, they fit right throughout my hips and thights and the length was perfect.  I’m wearing a size 10 for size reference.  Two thumbs up for these 24/7 jeans!

Here is a better picture of the Rockstar 24/7 jeans and the way they fit:

Next, I tried on the Luxe Curved-Hem Tee in “white stripe” in Regular and Petite and the Cropped Flare Ankle Jeans , similar Plus-Size.  I like the thin stripes on this tee!  The stripes are dark enough so you could wear this tee with black or navy.  Being that it is a white base tee, it’s not see through and although I’m not a big fan of the curved hem, the sillouette of the tee makes me like it.  It has a modal feel to it and because of that, the sleeves lay down flat and don’t stick out like some cotton tees.  I recommend this one, especially for your capsule wardrobe!  I’m wearing a Medium for size reference.  These jeans caught my eye, for the raw hem flare style.  I like the denim wash too!  They have slight distressing on the legs, but not too much.  They fit well in the waist and are currently on trend with the raw hem flare ankle length.  I really like these for an on-trend look!

I saw this High-Neck Cold-Shoulder Swing Top in “hot coral pink” in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size, and tried it on with these Mid-Rise Built-In-Sculpt Rockstar Jeans in “bright white” in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size.  The color of this top caught my eye as it was a pretty coral color.  The picture is a bit blurry, but you can still see how cute this top is!  It’s a cold shoulder top and I like that it fits like a swing tank, so those of you not quite into cold shoulder tops, I think you’ll like this one.  I’m wearing a Medium for size reference.  It was a bit snug through the chest, but I didn’t try on a large, which would probably have fit better.  These white Rockstar jeans have a slit on one knee and a raw hem.  They fit well and the length was good.  They were a tad bit tight on me and I was wearing my normal size 10.  They were thick enough that they were not see through, but as with my white jeans I always wear a nude color underwear with mine.

Next up is this Relaxed Lightweight Popover Top in Regular and Petite, and Mid-Rise Pixie Ankle Pants in “bright white” Regular and Petite.  I couldn’t find in Plus sizes online.  This top would work well in The Essential Capsule Wardrobe: Spring 2018 Collection eBook for the blue popover top in the wardrobe plan.  I like the stripes pattern, the fit and the length of this top.  You can leave the sleeves down or roll them up a bit.  I’m wearing a Medium for size reference.  These pixie pants were a bit tight.  Maybe it was the type of material, as they were just cotton and had no stretch.  I have a pair of navy pixie pants in the same size 10 I’ve had for a couple of years and they fit better.

I saw this Sleeveless Ruffle-Trim Metallic-Stripe Blouse in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size, online, saw it in the store and tried it on.  I tried it on with these Perfect Straight Power Jeans in “meadows” in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size.  The top has a tiny blue and white stripe material with metallic threads.  The bib yoke and slight ruffle around the arm openings adds a bit of interest.  It fit perfectly.  I saw the same top in a gingham print and had to try that one on too!  This top is a size Medium for reference.  These raw hem distressed straight jeans fit well and I liked the light wash denim material.  They have distressing on one knee which would add interest to your outfits.  They are a size 10 for size reference.

I’m glad they had this Relaxed Chambray Shirt in “light wash” in Regular and Petite, (Plus-Size alternative), because this is a great chambray shirt for the Spring.  I like to wear a chambray shirt in a lighter for the Spring and I definitely recommend this one.  It has one pocket and lays flat, so it would be easy to layer under a sweater, cardigan or jacket.  As with mostly any chambray shirt, this one would be a closet staple as you can wear this one with jeans, pants, skirts or shorts.  This top is a size Large for reference.  I tried it on with these The Power Jean, a.k.a. The Perfect Straight in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size, similar to the ones in the previous photo, but with a regular hem and no distressing.  These jeans were my favorite.  They fit great and were a good ankle length.  These jeans were a size 10 for reference.

I saw this Relaxed Linen-Blend Gingham Shirt in Regular and Petite (not available in Plus online) and thought this would be a great shirt for the Spring.  The material is a soft, lightweight linen.  It looked like a dark navy but also could be worn with black.  The shirt I tried on was a size Large and was a bit too big, but they didn’t have a Medium, which would have fit better.  I tried this shirt on with the The Power Jean, a.k.a. The Perfect Straight jeans from above.

I tried on a few pairs of shorts since several of us are having warm temps where we live.  I found this Relaxed Bib-Front Boho Tank in “white” in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size, and was a gorgeous blue floral pattern with tassels.  I liked how it fit and loved the colors.  I bought this top to go in my Summer capsule wardrobe.  You could wear this top now underneath a cardigan or jacket and jeans, pants or a skirt, then when it is Summer you can pair it with mostly any color shorts.  It is a size Medium for reference.  With this top, I tried on these Slim Denim 5″ Midi Shorts in “dark worn”.  I loved these shorts, as they were the perfect length and fit.  They fit well through my hips.  If I didn’t already have a dark wash pair of shorts, I would have bought these.

I tried on the gingham version of the sleeveless bib yoke top from above.  This is the Sleeveless Ruffle-Trim Gingham Top in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size.   The one I tried on was a Large, since they didn’t have my size, and was a tad big, so I tied it at the waist for a cute Summer look!  I may end up buying this one online in a Medium because it is just darling!  I tried the top on with these Mid-Rise Everyday 5″ Twill Shorts in “bright white”, Plus-Size 7″.  I really like the 5″ length over the shorter 3.5″.  I bought these since I needed a pair of white shorts for the Summer.

Next, I tried on this Relaxed Tie-Sleeve Jersey Top in “peach grove” in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size other color options.  The actual color is a bit more vivid than online.  I tried on a Medium, but it was too tight, across the chest, so this is the Large.  I wasn’t crazy about this top, but the split sleeves with tie accents are a nice change from a regular tee.  I tried on this top with these Mid-Rise Everyday Eyelet Shorts in 3.5″, Plus-Size other color options.  I would have preferred the 5″ but they only had the 3.5″ in stock.  The 5″ are available online.  I love the eyelet detail on these shorts and they would be perfect to wear with your Summer tops!

I tried on a couple of dresses that would be good for wearing with your capsule wardrobe.  First up, is Slub-Knit Tee Dress in “navy stripe” in Regular and Petite, Plus-Size similar, that I just loved!   I already have a J Crew striped dress but it’s a wide shape, so I may sell that one and buy this one.  I love the fit of the dress, as it is straight, but is also slimming.  For slimmer dresses at Old Navy, I usually have to size up, so this is a Large.

The other dress I tried on was this Lace-Yoke Cutwork-Sleeve Swing Dress in the same pattern as the top in the first photo above.  They have it available in a solid stripe pattern for Plus-Size.  I tried on a Large, since they didn’t have a Medium and it was way too big on me.  I like the straight style and most of all the pattern.  They have it online in both black and green colors as well.

So, which items did I buy?  I bought the Striped Floral Lace-up TopSleeveless Ruffle-Trim Gingham Top and Mid-Rise Everyday 5″ Twill Shorts in “bright white”.  My favorite items I didn’t buy were the 24/7 jeans, striped tee, chambray shirt, straight jeans (non-distressed), denim midi shorts, sleeveless gingham top and striped dress.

Which items at Old Navy have you bought for Spring and/or have in your Capsule Wardrobe?

  1. You tried on some great pieces! I agree with you about ON though – sometimes they are a bit inconsistent with sizing and quality. Lately it seems they are getting a bit better at least in the quality department! I really like the relaxed gingham top!

  2. You looked great in the cropped, raw edge jeans. I liked them on you so much better than the 24/7 jeans. Also, I loved you in the coral top. You tend to wear muted colors in your capsule so I was surprised by how well you looked in the bold coral color.

  3. I just bought the sleeveless gingham top for my Spring/Summer capsule too. I live in Houston & it’s already warm here so I’ve combined the 2 seasons into one capsule. Also the 24/7 pants are staples in my closet. They’re just so comfy!

  4. I have been looking for things to add to my spring/summer wardrobe. Thanks for the great ideas !

  5. Great post! I really like to get opinions from bloggers that I trust on clothing items like this. I read the reviews when shopping online but they often vary from “super cheap fabric” to “I love the soft, light weight fabric” so I never know what the item is really like.

  6. Thanks for this post! I’ve not shopped at Old Navy until just a few months ago when I purchased a couple sweaters and a long-sleeve gingham blouse similar to the sleeveless one you bought (it’s still winter-ish in Pittsburgh – Ugh!). I’ve been browsing the on-line store and wondering about some of the jeans, shorts and tops you tried on, so your honest feedback has been super helpful. If you don’t mind sharing your measurements and body type, I could better judge which sizes to purchase for myself.

Your recent Target try-on session was another post I loved, and which resulted in some great buys for me! I really enjoy your blog and style!

  7. Thank you Sandy! I’m a size 10 in pants with an hourglass body type. I normally wear a size Medium in tops, but some brands, like Madewell and J Crew, I have to size up to a Large.

  8. Everything looked so cute. I don’t know how you have the willpower to leave it behind! Great post!

  9. THANKS! I don’t shop at old navy unless it’s for throw away pieces meaning if the items gets ruined I won’t care and toss it because like you said quality is quite poor for my expectations.

But I really appreciate you taking the time to go and try on items. I’m loving the navy stripe top and dress, as well as the cambrey and popover top. I’ll probably go pick those up.

I’ve turned into quite the stripe addict and now have more stripe tops than is probably legal.

    Great Post,

    Ryan

  10. I have the navy & white striped dress and it’s great! I have several pairs of their Rockstar 24/7 jeans and LOVE them!

  11. Thanks for this post about Old Navy. I haven’t been for a long time and stopped by today (based on your post) and bought the Power Jean in a dark wash with the unfinished hem.

  12. Love the chambray shirt and the knit striped dress! They look like definite staples!

  13. Thanks for sharing your fashion post at the Inspiration Spotlight party. Pinned & sharing. Seriously, some cute fashions. My teen & I shopped ON near us, it’s a micro store, we live in a more rural area. We both only bought a couple of tees. But, I love hitting the bigger city stores when traveling. Seriously, it’s better for us to find it all online. Great picks to try on.
