How to Create A July 4th Outfit Using A Capsule Wardrobe + 4 Outfits
See how to use your Summer capsule wardrobe to create a festive July 4th Outfit! Plus, 4 Casual and Dressy Outfit Ideas!
July 4th is almost here already! If you want to look festive for the holiday, you can use pieces from your Summer capsule wardrobe in your July 4th outfit.
Several of you have asked how you can use your capsule wardrobe for a July 4th outfit, so here is how you can save money by not buying a completely new outfit, but use mostly what you have in your closet.
Step 1 – Pick A Festive Piece
Shop for a top, bottom or shoes that you will wear according to the activities you will be doing on the holiday. If you will be going out, you can dress casually with shorts or pants. If you will be working in the office, you can have a dressy holiday outfit. Or, laying by the pool, you can wear a swimsuit in holiday colors.
A bright red, white or royal blue are traditional July 4th colors to wear, but you can also wear softer tones to coordinate with your skin tone. Chambray blue is also a popular color to wear.
This ruffle sleeve red tee is perfect to wear on July 4th and you can wear it throughout the Summer too. It goes well with the denim shorts, sneakers and straw hat from the Stay At Home Mom Capsule Wardrobe: Summer 2020 Collection (see below for outfit idea). If you will be at the pool on July 4th, this blue striped ruffle swimsuit will look fabulous with your kimono, slide sandals and straw hat from the Essential Capsule Wardrobe: Summer 2020 Collection.
Step 2 – Select Your Capsule Wardrobe Pieces
When you are considering purchasing a festive piece for the holiday, make sure it will coordinate with a top or bottom in your capsule wardrobe. Lots of basic essentials in solid, neutral colors are included in every capsule wardrobe season series, like white pants, denim shorts, tees, etc., so you will be able to coordinate your festive piece.
Look in your capsule wardrobe and see if there is a pair of shoes and/or accessories you can wear with your festive outfit. You can use those pieces as well so you can save money by not purchasing any additional pieces.
Here are several clothes and accessories for you to wear on July 4th:
Step 3 – Add Accessories
To complete your outfit, either add accessories either from your capsule wardrobe or add a festive accessory. If you will be going out, add your handbag too. You can add a pair of these budget-friendly red star earrings, this red pattern bandana or these triple drop earrings that would look darling with this chambray linen cami top!

How fun and festive!
Thanks Leanne!! I love when you do these “what to wear” holiday posts!!
What a sweet post. I love it. Thanks for prompting me to think about this!
I love this post. Very useful. More please on special occasion outfits!
I love this. I usually buy an entire outfit – it’s great to see how just incorporating one or two new pieces can work. Thank you!
Hi Leanne, I love your capsules!! I’ve purchased many of your ebooks and love the French minimalist version. It has changed my life and been so fun buying new clothes and following your outfit recommendations. I just purchased the 4th of July red ruffle shirt. It’s perfect with white pants.
I’m wondering about the men’s simplified ebook for my 23 year old son, getting into the working world. Will this work for his age group? Are the links still valid? Do you foresee an updated version coming out soon? Thank you for your creativity and excellent work!
