Big question, Leanne. I LOVE your capsule help. I’m currently re-editing my wardrobe and trying to fine-tune it to have a more streamlined , year-round capsule. My challenge is this: deciding in black as my base color or navy. To me , black is easier. Love the clean details and the simplicity using black. However, I also have found that I am truly not comfortable wearing, for example, a black moto jacket. It just didn’t feel it look like “ me”. My daughter now loves it!???? So, I have a brown one, now , which feels more comfortable. I also have navy pieces. This is really a struggle. Deciding is difficult at this point. It may be the black “structure” near my face may be more a style issue. I think you have good experience and would welcome your thoughts. Am I the only one?….What would you do? You are blonde as well, as I. ????btw. Thank you SO much for reading this long message!
But brown over black is a GREAT look! And if you need a pop of color, well, that’s what a great scarf can do for you!

Thank you for your question! I am often asked about base color substitutions! I recommend wearing a base color that you feel most comfortable wearing according to the tone of your skin. Some women prefer to wear black and others navy blue. Those two base colors are the most popular as they provide a dark base for the other lighter colors you include in your capsule wardrobe, plus black and navy blue both coordinate with many other colors. I found for myself that Navy is really my base color. (I *think* I’m a “summer”.) I do have some black, but it’s in bits such as accents and away from my face. I got a cute moto jacket through thrifting that is navy with a light iridescence, and I love it. ~Dani
