Black and Denim (Trendy Wednesday #149)

| | |

Before I discovered a “capsule wardrobe”, I never wore black tops.  The only black I did wear was dress pants and I wore them for my job.  I always thought that black didn’t look well on me, so I stayed clear of any tops that had any hint of black.  I tend to gravitate toward my favorite colors, which are blush, light pinks and light grays.  This past Fall, I found a black cami on sale and really liked how it fit.  When I was creating my Winter capsule wardrobe, I needed a couple of layering tops.  I saw a few online at Banana Republic, so not being familiar with how their clothes fit, I went to the store to try on a few tops.  I saw this black soft jersey turtleneck and tried it on.  I loved how it fit and I actually liked the solid black color!  That black double layer satin cami and this black soft jersey turtleneck changed the way I look at any black tops now.  My exact top currently has limited sizes, but this feather touch turtleneck is almost exact and is warmer as it’s of a wool and cashmere blend.

When my husband and I went outside to take these photos it was freezing!  It’s been in the 20’s and 30’s all this week, so he took just a few photos and then we ran back inside.  Don’t let the sunshine in the photos fool ya, it was frigid.  Brr!  When we went out later on to do some shopping in town, I wore this black Blanknyc faux leather jacket that I bought during the Nordstrom sale a few months ago.  What I liked about this leather jacket was that it is well made for the price.  Instead of the usual silver hardware, it has gold hardware.  Wouldn’t you know that when I share an outfit photo of me wearing it, the jacket is only available in one size!  Hopefully, they will restock the black color soon.  It’s also available in a cognac and an ivory color.  I’ve found a few leather jackets that you’ll like though.  Before I bought the one I have on, I considered this black faux leather moto jacket.  It’s by Levi’s and has subtle hardware, so you can wear it dressy or casual.  Currently, it’s on sale, which is a plus!  If you favor real leather jackets, this leather moto jacket from Madewell is gorgeous and also comes in a beautiful “cabernet” color.  If you would rather not have the moto collar, this Bernardo leather moto jacket has a subtle collar.  I am wearing a Bernardo puffer jacket in this post, and I highly recommend the brand.

Shop these leather jackets:

I’ve been wearing these AG legging jeans and love them!  They are new to my Winter capsule wardrobe.  I’ve had the boots I’m wearing for a couple of years and they are my go-to boots!  They are the Sam Edelman black Penny boots.  They are so comfortable and I can walk in them all day and my feet don’t hurt a bit.

For accessories, I’m carrying my Philip Lim Mini Pashli bag (c/o Shopbop) and wearing my Kendra Scott Sophia earrings.  Later on, when we went to town, I wore my camel cashmere scarf (similar) which kept me extra warm.

  1. I love this chic, but classy outfit. It looks effortless and well put together. I’m still working on that craft, as I think there are times when I look like I’m trying to hard. Thanks for hosting and keeping us inspired!
