Try-On Session Reviews Spring & Summer: J.Jill, Talbots, Chicos, Eileen Fisher, J. Crew, Nisolo

Happy Spring! Can you believe it is May already? And, this Friday is Cinco de Mayo! I have been planning my Summer capsule wardrobe and have been doing some online shopping. A couple of weeks ago the Hubby and I went out for the day. I went to J.Jill, Chicos and Loft. It had been forever since I had been to a J.Jill store and oh my goodness, everything was so pretty! I used to shop at J.Jill several years ago. I love their relaxed, natural style aesthetic! I had a great time browsing in the stores and bought a few things for my summer capsule wardrobe!

UPDATE ON MY COLOR ANALYSIS: Since I have recently discovered I am a “Soft Summer” from my color analysis, I have been really studying the Soft Summer color theory and how certain coloring look on me. As you may know, a couple of years ago when I was highlighting my hair and it was really blonde, I had a professional color analysis done by Jen at Your Color Style. She determined I was Bright, Cool & Light. Well, now since I went back to my natural hair color, the bright colors in that color fan are too strong, so I used the free MyColors app and tested for a Soft Summer. Since I REALLY LIKE Your Color Style coloring system, last week I did a DIY Color Analysis by doing the automated self course. I determined I was a Soft, Cool & Light and I couldn’t be more happy! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE all the colors in the color palette! I purchased the “Soft, Cool & Light” color fan, the “Cool Neutrals” color fan (to take with me when I’m shopping in a store) and the “Soft, Cool & Light” Digital Color Palette to have when I’m shopping online! Jen has really expanded the Your Color Style website and is the best color analysis website, in my opinion, out there!

UPDATE ON OUR HOUSE: We have been settled in our house for a few weeks now and the Hubby has finished mostly all the small projects/finishing touches we needed to do. Since our backyard is mostly wooded, we have LOTS of wildlife: deer, raccoons, chipmunks, squirrels and birds. We love to sit in the screened porch and watch the wildlife! We fenced in our backyard and placed birdfeeders inside and on the outside of the fence we setup a deer feeder. The deer come by early in the morning and later in the evening to eat and the birds eat all day! The river wraps around the area we live so the air smells fresh and clean.

Here is our backyard. The ground looks bare since we had to have land work done after we built our house, but we will be planting grass soon!

And, here is our screened porch where we like to sit and watch the birds and deer!

The Summer 2023 Capsule Wardrobes

In case you missed it, I posted the publication dates of the Summer 2023 Capsule Wardrobes last week. The Coastal Vibes capsule is set for release on May 4! The Try-On Session Reviews

I placed several orders from a few of my favorite retailers and everything is below.

For size reference, my height is 5’9″ and I weigh approximately 165 lbs. For tops, I typically wear a size Medium (10) or Large (12), depending on the brand and fit of the top (for slim-fit, I usually wear a Large). For bottoms, my normal size is a 10 OR a 30/31 waist, a 10-inch high rise fits my waist the best and a 28 inch inseam comes to my ankle. My shoe size is 9 medium or 40EU.

The first pieces I tried on was this J.Jill Pima Tee in “sprout” (size Medium), J.Jill Modern Linen-Stretch Slit-Hem Pants in “white” (size Medium) and these Born Inlet Sandals in “light gold metallic” (true to size 9). Both the tee and pants are so soft! I wore the pants and sandals this past Saturday to a baby shower, with the J.Jill navy tee and scarf below and I received lots of compliments! I absolutely LOVE the Born Inlet Sandals! I ordered the gold metallic, then later ordered the tan color, not sure of which one I would like. Since I love both and they are so comfy, I’m keeping both pairs!

I was wanting to add a navy midi skirt to my summer capsule, so I ordered this Eileen Fisher Stretch Jersey Knit A-Line Skirt in “ocean” (size Medium). Since it is a Lyocell/Elastane blend, it is SO soft and flowy and is a great piece to have in your wardrobe! I also found this Eileen Fisher Linen-Cotton Sheer Check Shirred-Back Top in “white” (size Medium). It is so beautiful and I love the design of the back. I’m going to wear a light cami underneath since it is a bit sheer. I’m also wearing the Born Inlet Sandals in “light gold metallic” (true to size 9).

I recently discovered the Eileen Fisher Renew website (on the EileenFisher.com menu) and ordered a pair of navy pants and a navy t-shirt dress! (the white top and skirt I’m wearing below is from the Eileen Fisher retail site) It’s like ThredUp, but is from Eileen Fisher! They professional clean everything before it is shipped to you. There are a lot of pieces that are “like new” at low prices and some have a minor flaws (see the description on the product pages). I paired the Eileen Fisher Stretch Jersey Knit A-Line Skirt in “ocean” (size Medium) and Born Inlet Sandals in “light gold metallic” (true to size 9) with this Loft Chambray Ruffle Tie Neck Top (size Medium). I love the light blue shade of the top and it is so soft!

I bought these sandals last year and they have held up well! I can walk in these all day and they are comfy.

I recommended this Chirping Stripe Belted Knit Dress in “indigo/ivory” (size Large) in a post a couple months back and I bought it for myself! OMG, it’s the perfect striped dress in my opinion! It is a navy and white stripe with a tie belt in the same fabric. I’ll be wearing this dress to church with my denim jacket! I’m wearing my Sam Edelman Waylon Sandal Heel in “beechwood” (true to size 9).

Nordstrom has lots of pretty pieces in their Caslon line for Spring and Summer! They have this Caslon Stripe Cotton Popover Top in “pink parfait jessie stripe” (size Medium), is all cotton and is SO soft! I love these Talbots Belted Wide Crop Pants in “blue chambray” (size 10) in a linen/cotton blend. They include a rope tie belt but I removed it. These pants can be worn casual or dressed up for work! I’m wearing my Sam Edelman Waylon Sandal Heel in “beechwood” (true to size 9).

I LOVE this outfit! It’s relaxed, yet refined and I like how the scarf adds a bit of color! This is the J.Jill Everyday Cotton Tee in “navy blue” (size Medium) and has slight roll-up sleeves and a scoop neckline. The cotton on this tee is very soft and holds its shape well. I’m loving these J.Jill Pure Jill Sand-Washed Full-Leg Crops in “soft taupe” (I’m in the size Medium Tall for added length). They are a Tencel modal blend, lightweight and flowy with a slight crinkled texture, making them look dressy. When I saw this J.Jill Bordered-Floral Tasseled Scarf in “light aqua large watercolor botanical”, I could not resist buying! It is absolutely gorgeous and dresses up any outfit. I’m also wearing the Born Inlet Sandals in “light gold metallic” (true to size 9).

Ok, please look past the wrinkles on this top and shorts, as I didn’t iron them before I tried them on, so they are fresh out of the shipping box! I really like this Loft Star Puff Sleeve Blouse (size Medium)! I may be keeping it for my own summer capsule wardrobe. It is a linen/viscose blend so it’s soft and I like the square neck style. These Eileen Fisher Drawstring Organic Linen Shorts in “graphite” (size Medium) are very pretty and the graphite color is a soft black which looks better with those of us with cool-toned skin. I’m wearing the Born Inlet Sandals in “natural leather” (true to size 9).

This is one of the tees I ordered from Orvis. This one is the Orvis Perfect Relaxed V-Neck Short-Sleeved Tee in “blue moon” (size Medium). The other tee I ordered was the Orvis Perfect Relaxed V-Neck Short-Sleeved Tee in “blue moon mini stripe” (also size Medium). Both the tees are very soft and fit well! Right now Orvis has a “Perfect Tees – Buy 2, Save $20”! This Talbots Tie Waist Utility Skirt in “Spring Moss” (size 10) is just darling! I’m tall so it falls above my knee, but it is still a comfortable length. I really do like it but not sure if I’m going to keep it. What do you think, should I keep it? This is the J. Crew Relaxed-fit Baird McNutt Irish Linen Shirt in “white” (size Medium, runs large). I had this shirt in my closet and pulled it out to style with the Talbots Belted Wide Crop Pants in “blue chambray” (size 10). I’ve lost a little bit of weight since last year, so this shirt is just a bit roomy on me now! I could probably wear a size small, but I do like the relaxed roominess of it. I’m wearing the Born Inlet Sandals in “light gold metallic” (true to size 9).

I bought this Loft Floral Smocked Tie Neck Flutter Shell (size Medium) in the store a couple of weeks ago. I fell in love with the navy floral pattern online and went to the store specifically to try it on. It is such a beautiful pattern and is versatile since you can wear it with pants, shorts, jeans and skirts!

I bought two pairs of shorts in the longer length. I know many of you like the longer length shorts, so I wanted to share how these look in outfits. The first pair is the Nordstrom Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’Solution Retro High Waist Denim Bermuda Shorts (size 10). I have a light wash pair identical to these and since I love them so much, I wanted a medium wash pair. They are a lightweight denim with stretch, which is great to wear in the summer months. I’m wearing the shorts with the Caslon Stripe Cotton Popover Top in “pink parfait jessie stripe” (size Medium) and my new Sam Edelman Bay Slides in “saddle” (true to size 9). I have had these sandals a few years ago everywhere! I wore them so much that they were worn out. I knew I loved them so these are replacement pair. These are comfy and great to wear in the summer, especially on vacation!

Last, but certainly not least, are these Chico’s So Slimming Brigitte 10″ Shorts in “smokey taupe” (size 1.5 / 10M). I love these shorts and look so polished! My top would look better if I tucked it in, but I wanted you to see the length of the J.Jill Pima Tee in “sprout” (size Medium). I’m also wearing my Eileen Fisher Digit Sandals in “khaki” (size 9).
