10 Elevated-Casual Summer Capsule Wardrobe Outfits

My summer 2024 capsule wardrobe has been my most favorite capsule I have created! It is mostly neutral color clothes and shoes with a few blue and green accent colors. I have been able to make so many outfit combinations with this capsule! There are some tailored pieces, skirts and a dress and I also included more classic, minimal pieces.

If you are in a style rut and don’t know what to wear, keep reading, because I have 10 outfit ideas for you! I have 10 bottoms in my capsule wardrobe: shorts, pants and skirts. I styled these bottoms with several tops from my summer capsule wardrobe.

For size reference, my height is 5’9″ and I weigh approximately 170 lbs., have an hourglass figure and I am mid-size. For tops, I typically wear a size Medium (10) or Large (12), depending on the brand and fit of the top (for slim-fit, I usually wear a Large). For bottoms, my normal size is a 12 (depending on the brand and fit of the bottom) OR a 31 waist; a10-inch high rise fits my waist the best and a 28 inch inseam falls at my ankle, 30 inch inseam is full-length on me. My shoe size is 9 medium or 40EU. For swimwear, I am typically a Large or size 12.

Outfit 1: Black Midi Skirt, White Tank & Brown Ankle Strap Sandals

How do you make a black and white not look boring? Add brown! I paired this white tank (Large) and black midi skirt (similar) (Lands End – size Medium) together and added these brown sandals (size 9) and this Madewell woven tote (similar brown tote) for some color contrast. The rich brown color offsets the black and white colors in the outfit. I recently bought these $15 Oval Sunglasses from Target and they are so chic!

Outfit 2: Olive Shorts, Chambray Shirt & Rattan Sandals

I love the color combination of this outfit: blue and olive! These colors remind me of nature (blue sky and green grass), which naturally go together! The tones of the blue chambray shirt and olive shorts pair well together. My exact shirt is the Caslon Chambray Camp Shirt, nearly sold out (Large). I found one that’s very similar: the Quince Chambray Tencel Shirt in “light indigo”. I just LOVE these Extra High-Waisted Utility Shorts in “olive” (Large) with the paperbag-style waist with tie! These Target Straw Slide Sandals in “beige” (size 9) are a late addition to my summer wardrobe. I had been looking for a pair of sandals like these and added these after I completed my summer capsule wardrobe. They are so comfy!

Outfit 3: Beige Linen Pants, Olive Striped Tank & Slide Sandals

I added these Quince Linen Wide Leg Pants in the “driftwood” color last year and loved them so much that I included them in this summer’s capsule! I really like the wide elastic waistband with drawstring tie. I added a bit of color with the Gap Olive Stripe Tank Top (also love this striped tank). I completed the outfit with these Sam Edelman Slide Sandals in the “almond patent” color and this $26 Amazon Quilted Crossbody Tassel Bag in the “sand” color.

Outfit 4: Denim Shorts, Black Linen Top & Chunky Sandals

Even though this outfit is just black and denim blue, I love the simplicity of it! I bought these Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’Solution Denim Shorts in “bi-blue” (size 10) last year and I was glad to see they are available again this year! You can wear these shorts 2 ways: rolled up like I’m wearing them below or unrolled with the raw hem showing. I have this Madewell Bateau Linen Top in both “black” and “white”, wearing the black color (size Large). They are almost sold out, but here is a similar linen top I recommend: the Quince European Linen Top. Outfit 5: White Eyelet Skirt, Olive Tee & Slide Sandals

Eyelet is so lovely in the summer! This Lands End Tiered Eyelet Skirt in “white” (size M 10-12), is an easy piece to wear. Just throw on a top, add some sandals and you are ready to go out the door! I paired this simple Old Navy Snug Crop Tee in “olive” (wearing a Tall Large for added length). I added this $9.99 Amazon Rattan Stretch Belt in the “cream” color for some texture and these Steve Madden Hadyn Sandals in “cognac” (size 9) to match the brown on the belt buckle. I also added my Sezane June Straw Bag to finish the look.

Outfit 6: Beige Tailored Shorts, Striped Tee & Black Strap Sandals

I LOVE these Abercrombie Sloane Tailored Shorts in “light taupe” (fit small, sized up a size to 32) and also bought them in black and also white linen (styled them also in this post). They have a hidden stretch waistband in the back which I love. This style of shorts elevates any casual outfit! I added this $23.99 Amazon Striped Cap Sleeve Tee in “black white” (size Large) and these Naturalizer Salma Sandals in “black croc” (size 9). Two more items I’m wearing I bought on Amazon: this black belt (in a 3-pack “D-black-brown-beige”, waist size 38″-42″) and this Pineapple Star Straw Fedora Hat in “beige” (size Small). Outfit 7: White Linen Shorts, Blue Flutter Sleeve Tee & White Strap Sandals

Here are the Abercrombie Sloane Linen-Blend Shorts in “white” (fit small, sized up a size to 32) I mentioned above. I paired this Lands End Ribbed Flutter Sleeve Tee (size M 10-12), looks like the blue color is sold out, but here is another lovely blue flutter sleeve top. I’m wearing my Birkenstock Arizona Sandals in “white” (size EU40, equiv. to size 9). I kept the accessories in the same light tone as my shoes: the beige belt in a 3-pack “D-black-brown-beige”, waist size 38″-42″) and my Naghedi Nomad Hobo Bag in “ecru” (I have carried this bag SO MUCH!).

Outfit 8: Black Tailored Shorts, Beige Vest & Chunky Sandals

Tailored vests started trending in the spring and they are still on trend this summer! I tried several tailored vests and this vest from Amazon fits the best. It’s from a vest and shorts set and is only $48! Mostly all the vests I tried were too small or too tight. This striped linen-blend vest from Target also fits great! Outfit 9: Chambray Shorts, Woven Sweater Tank & Slide Sandals

These are the best fitting chambray shorts I have ever owned! They are the Lands End 7″ Chambray Shorts in “evening sky chambray” (size 12). They are just the right length, a tailored look in the front and elastic waist in the back. I paired the Everlane Organic Cotton Open-Stitch Tank in “bone” (size Large) for some texture and contrast and added my Steve Madden Hadyn Sandals in “cognac” (size 9). I added my J. Crew Skinny Italian Leather Belt in “pecan” (Large – I also have this belt in black) to match my sandals. I completed my outfit with some minimal jewelry and my Loewe Medium Straw Tote with brown leather accents to pull the look together.

Outfit 10: White Linen Pants, Black Tee & Rattan Sandals

Here is another black and white outfit that if only styled with black and white would be boring, but adding the right shoes and accessories makes it look more cohesive! These J. Jill Linen Pants in “white” are from last year and are sold out, but I found these Banana Republic White Linen-Blend Straight Pants that will be in your closet for several years! I’m wearing the Target Ribbed Scoop Neck Tee in “black” (size Large – I also bought the white color tee) and the Target Straw Slide Sandals in “beige” (size 9). I added the brown belt in a 3-pack “D-black-brown-beige”, waist size 38″-42″) to match the this Madewell woven tote (similar brown tote).
