How To Use a Curling Wand: An Easy, 5-Step Tutorial

An Easy, 5-step Tutorial using the Irresistable Me Sapphire 8-in-1 Curling Wand Set!

Have you ever used a curling wand to curl your hair?  A curling wand is the best tool to use to achieve the softest curls.  Depending on your hair type and texture, curling your hair with a curling wand can last on average about a day.
In the past I’ve used a curling iron to curl my hair.  You know, the one where you put your hair in between the clamp and barrel, roll up your hair, then hope that your hair curls right.  My curls didn’t last long at all.  Then, I tried a curling wand purchased at a large retailer.  It  didn’t work very well.  It took forever to heat up, then the curls didn’t hold very long, like, about an hour tops.
The 5-Step Tutorial is coming up!
The Irresistable Me company contacted me for a review of their Sapphire 8-in-1 Curling Wand Set, I couldn’t wait to try it.  The set came in this fold-out box.

Inside the box was this handy travel bag…
When you roll it out…
The set comes with the base and 8 curling wand attachments!  I felt like a kid in a candy store!  So many choices!  Which one did I use for this tutorial?  I wanted soft, almost beachy waves, so I used the 32mm straight barrel (the largest one).
It also comes with this heat-protective glove to use so you won’t burn your fingers.  The quality of this glove that’s included is so much better than most on the market.  I didn’t use the glove when I curled my hair for this tutorial, because I’ve curled my hair so many times.  But, I highly recommend using it, especially if you’ve not used a wand.
The 5-Step Tutorial for curling your hair with a curling wand
(using the Irresistable Me Sapphire 8-in-1 Curling Wand Set):

1. Brush Your Hair & Turn On The Wand

Brush your hair until it’s smooth.  This will ensure that you will achieve soft, even curls.  Insert the 32mm straight barrel (the largest one) into the base.  Turn on the curling wand and set your temperature on the wand display.  The higher the temperature, the less time it will take to create the curl.  When the wand is ready, it will display the temperature you set it to.
2.  Spray With Heat Protectant Spray & Curl The Bottom Half

You’ll need to curl the bottom of your hair first, so pull your hair up into a clip on the top of your head.  Spray the bottom part of your hair with heat protection spray.  By using this spray, 1) it will protect your hair from being damaged by the heat, and 2) it will help hold the curl longer.

3.  Start Curling!

Take a 1-inch section of hair, hold it out and start wrapping the hair around the wand by holding the wand down.  Start wrapping the hair on the wand as close to your scalp, but not too close because you don’t want to burn your head!  Leave about 1-2 inches unwrapped around the barrel to achieve a more natural beachy look.  Hold for 10 seconds, then release the hair letting it fall down on its own.
Here’s a few tips as you are curling your hair: 1.  Be sure to hold the wand with the barrel pointing down, because when you release the hair from the barrel, the hair will fall straight down, holding the curl.  2.  Curl the hair around your face away from you.  Then with the next strand, curl the hair toward your face.  It creates more volume.  (see photo below)

4.  Spray With Heat Protectant Spray & Curl the Top Half

Take out the clip out of your hair.  Now, you’re ready to curl the top of your hair.  Spray with more heat protectant spray.  For the top, I start at the back and work my way toward the front, alternating the direction of each curl, front, back, front, etc.
Here’s another tip: When you release the hair from the barrel, twist the curl with your fingers (like in the photo below) to help the curl stay until you’re ready to style your hair.

5.  Style Your Hair

Now, that you have all your hair curled, gently shake your hair and soften the curls.  You can lightly twist curled strands to reform some curls so they are more defined.  Spray with hair spray to set your hair.  Enjoy your curls!

I’m totally pleased with the Irresistable Me Sapphire 8-in-1 Curling Wand Set!  There’s seriously no comparison of other curling wands to this one.  This is the ultimate curling wand to use and I highly recommend it!  I can’t wait to try the other barrels.  Click here for the fact sheet!
The entire set is $199, but it works out to be $25 per barrel.  If you were to buy each of these as a separate wand, it would cost much more, so the price is a bargain!  You can order directly from them; they are located in New York.

  1. Your hair looks so pretty! I usually do paper bag curls as I really struggle with using curling irons and straighteners – I just haven't quite gotten the hang of them yet. But this wand looks super fun!

  2. I need to find one of those gloves somewhere because I'm absolutely terrified to try one of these on myself, ha! As a naturally curly haired girl, I've never mastered a curling iron, so naturally anything like this is really intimidating for me. You make it look easy!
