My 31-Piece Summer 2019 Capsule Wardrobe
I’ve prepared my closet for the Summer season! See all the 31-piece clothes and shoes in my Summer 2019 Capsule Wardrobe!
Summer is here and let me tell you, it is hot outside! I live in Northeast Alabama and it just doesn’t get hot here, it gets H-O-T and Humid, so much so during the Summer that you can just walk outside and start sweating, just from the humidity!
When I plan my Summer capsule wardrobes, I take the heat into consideration and include mostly shorts. This year I included several skirts too. They are not only cute to wear with tees and tops, but they keep me cool, sometimes more than shorts!
A couple of weeks ago I shared on my Instagram account a sneak peek of my Summer capsule wardrobe. I removed the pants and jeans because, since it’s already in the 90’s here, I figured I won’t be wearing them because they would be too hot. I’ve already shared several of my Summer capsule wardrobe outfits I’ve been wearing on Instagram and in the blog post where I showed my 10-Piece Travel Capsule Wardrobe that I wore on our Savannah, Georgia vacation.
When I was creating my Summer 2019 capsule wardrobe, I took my Spring capsule wardrobe out of my closet, put a few pieces from my Spring capsule back in my closet and packed the rest of the clothes away. I work at home so I wear clothes that are casual and comfortable, but that also look great while I run errands and go to town.
I included shoes in this capsule wardrobe. I have four pairs of Summer shoes that I find myself wanting to wear ALL THE TIME, so I will include just those 4 pairs in my Summer capsule.
In deciding what clothes I wanted in my Summer capsule wardrobe, first I decided my base color, which is the first step in my popular blog post, How To Create a Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide. I decided to have BLACK as my base color. It’s been a while since I used Black as the base color for the Summer as I usually choose Navy, but I like to change things up a bit every now and then, so I’m using Black. I picked 3 accent colors: basil, red and goldenrod. If you notice there is chambray blue in my capsule also, but I consider this a neutral color, so I didn’t include it in my accent colors.
Use Your Core Closet Essentials
To create a capsule wardrobe that is efficient and that can make many outfits, I use mostly Core Closet Essentials. They are basic essentials in neutral colors that never go out of style. Core Closet Essentials are considered the building blocks of an efficient closet. You can have a capsule wardrobe with just core closet essentials, like in my eBook Simplified Style: A Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe, or you can add a few trendy clothes in accent colors to expand your wardrobe. My Summer capsule wardrobe uses mostly core closet essentials, with a few trendy tops in two accent colors.
By using your Core Closet Essentials, you save money as well! Using mostly basic essentials in your capsule every season prevents you from having to constantly buy loads of clothes. You can choose to buy just a few clothes or wear what you have each season. It keeps money in your wallet, plus it’s better for the environment! I used to buy lots of clothes every month with all kinds of colors and patterns. I would grow tired of them quickly and would buy more. Now, I utilize my core closet essentials and I enjoy wearing them over and over!
I can remember just a few years ago when I didn’t use a capsule wardrobe. I don’t see how I ever found anything in my closet! It used to be a complete mess! I had too many clothes that didn’t coordinate, clothes that didn’t fit, clothes with colors that didn’t look good on me, you name it. I even had bad shopping habits! I would buy an outfit…a top and bottom that would go together, not really thinking how I could wear the pieces with other clothes in my closet. Plus, I loved to go shopping for clothes. When I was bored or had a bad day, I would go shopping and always felt like I had to buy something to feel good. Shopping lead to a high credit card bill, in which I was in constant debt.
I’m so glad I discovered the “capsule wardrobe” system, because using a capsule wardrobe helps me get ready quickly, I love what I wear, I have a neat and organized closet and I always have dozens of outfits ready to wear. I’m so passionate about capsule wardrobes, that I publish Complete Wardrobe Plans each season, all in the Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store.
Thousands of women use these Capsule Wardrobe Plans each season for their closets!
Now onto my capsule wardrobe! I have 31 items in my Summer 2019 capsule wardrobe. My capsule wardrobe is based mostly on the Stay At Home Mom capsule wardrobe eBook, with a few items that I already had in my wardrobe.

& Transform Your Closet!
I created my capsule wardrobe using my capsule wardrobe process, using the steps in this blog post, How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide.
First, I took everything out of my closet, so that it was empty. I kept a few items from my Spring capsule wardrobe and hung them back in my closet. I put the rest of my clothes from my Spring capsule in my storage bins. I went through my closet for the clothes I thought about using in my capsule. I knew I may not include all of them in my capsule, but it gave me a starting point.
I went through the clothes, determined what I wanted to keep for my capsule, then hung those clothes in my closet, using wooden hangers like these. These velvet hangers also work well and these hangers are perfect for hanging skirts. Then, I hung any clothes that I wouldn’t be using in my capsule back in my closet. If you need a clothes rack to hang your clothes on, here is my exact wardrobe rack that you see in several photos here on the blog. This pipe clothes rack (comes in black or white) and this wooden clothes rack (comes in wood or white) will work great for your capsule wardrobe too. And, I love this industrial pipe and wooden wardrobe rack from West Elm!

I spy a skirt also in my closet! Love that floral skirt with pockets. All great pieces here for perfect summer style.
Hi love your summer capsule. I live in a very similar summer season to you. In northern New South Wales, Australia the summers are long, hot and very humid. Currently enjoying Autumn (Fall) season. Look forward to revisiting this capsule in November. June Oz.
All of these clothes look so cute. I love the floral shorts and skirt and all your colors. My only complaint is that I would love to see each piece from the front (hanging or laid out). I know that takes more time but I’d be much more tempted to buy something if I can see it instead of having to click the link without knowing what it is.
I LOVE that floral skirt. I so wish I could find it in midi length. I wear knee length or longer in skirts and shorts, but these are so inspiring. I have most of the bottoms in my length already. I am looking for a similar floral skirt and capris – but my length. Again thanks for the inspiration.
Hello from Pell City, AL. I’ve learned so much from you about capsule wardrobes and my clothes collection is dwindling with only things i actually wear still in my closet. Love this capsule.
I love wearing maxi skirts and dresses in the Summer!
I am new to your site and am working on paring down my closet to more versatile pieces. I purchased the Minimalist digital book but would love to add the kimono for a kicky look to my basics. Is there a link to the one you showed above?
Love your capsule wardrobes! Thanks to your concept I have been narrowing down my closet full of clothes and I love it!
I noticed Loft is having a sale and I wanted to order some Of the Rivera shorts. Do they run true to size? I’m between a 2 and a 4.
Thx again!!!
