How to Shop the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is almost here!  Eek, I’m so excited, how about you?  We are just days away from one of the best clothing sales of the entire year. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned about this sale in years past it’s this: it’s best to have some sort of strategy going in.  I’m so glad I use a capsule wardrobe in my closet, as I shop with purpose, knowing what I do buy, it will coordinate with other pieces in my wardrobe.

You may be asking, What Is The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a unique type of sale.  Unlike other sales, which typically discount current-season or post-season merchandise that didn’t previously sell, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale offers deep discounts on pre-season items. Which means that all of the jeans, cardigans, boots and bags that you’ll be buying for the Fall season, you can grab at a really discounted price!  Once the sale is over, the prices go back up to their retail price. 

I’ve been shopping this Nordstrom sale for a few years.  First of all, I love shopping at Nordstrom.  They carry brands such as Madewell, Caslon, Halogen, AG, BP, Nike and more.  Come to think of it, Nordstrom is my favorite place to shop!  I buy over 60% of my clothes from there.   They have free shipping and free returns, plus their customer service is top notch.  

How To Shop The 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

1. When Is The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Dates: July 12* – August 4, 2019

July 9 – Nordy Club Icons Shop In-Store
July 10-11 – Nordy Club Ambassadors Shop In-Store
July 12 – Early Access Begins
July 18 – Early Access Ends
July 19 – Public Sale Begins
August 4 – Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Ends

2. Get Early Access with the Nordstrom Card

You don’t need a Nordstrom credit card to shop when sale is open to the public on July 19. But, you do need a Nordstrom credit card to shop during the Early Access Sale. There are perks to having their credit card, like their Nordstrom Rewards program, When the Public Sale begins, most of the “good stuff” has already sold out. I highly recommend shopping the Early Access Sale, as that is when the most products are available.

If you haven’t already, sign up for a Nordstrom Card, here.

If you would rather not sign up for a Nordstrom Card, you can sign up for The Nordy Club. This is the Nordstrom Rewards program. There are benefits to using your Nordy Club Card (like an extra $60 bonus note if you sign up before July 10 (right before the sale) or an extra $40 bonus note good through July 15, if you already have a credit card (meaning you’ll be able to use it for Anniversary Sale Early Access).

You can still enroll in The Nordy Club and earn rewards points, even if you don’t get a card. You’ll earn rewards at Nordstrom, Nordstrom.com, Rack, and HauteLook…but you won’t be able to shop Early Access without a Nordstrom Card.

3. Schedule Your Triple Points Day For The First Day of The Sale

I recommend that you schedule your Personal Triple Points Day during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Just place a checkmark next to it when you checkout at Nordstrom.com. You’ll earn a $20 Note for every $334 you spend on your Personal Triple Points Day.

6. Shop the Early Access As Soon As Possible

I cannot recommend this enough: The most anticipated pieces typically sell out during that first week of early access. In years past, I’ve seen popular items sell out and they are not restocked. Some items will be restocked, but some will not, so shop early.

7. The Best Way To Shop The Anniversary Sale…ONLINE!

What I’ve found from other bloggers is that during the Early Access sale, shopping in-store is chaotic, lots of people, limited dressing room availability, plus having to wade through the isles trying to find what you are looking for!  I live about 3 hours away from a Nordstrom store, so I always shop online.  In years past, I shop conveniently from my home, in my pajamas, with a cup of coffee, shopping stress-free!   So, remember the Early Access Sale starts July 12.

8. Buy Sale Items With Huge Sell-Out Risk First.

Women’s clothes, shoes and accessories sell out first.  I shared initial picks in this blog post from last year, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access Initial Picks. Men’s and Kid’s items tend to stay in -stock longer.  Brands like Vince, Rag & Bone, Nike, etc are always popular during the Anniversary Sale, so shop early.  While I don’t know what items will be the most popular, I usually stay tuned to fellow bloggers’ coverage of the sale, as some bloggers shop in-store and I can see which items are generating the most interest.  What I find out, I will report here on Classy Yet Trendy!

Last year, items such as cashmere, tall boots, ankle boots, skinny jeans, coats, handbags, makeup, scarves and leopard were the most popular.  I’m guessing that we will see that again this year.

9. Shop With Purpose & Avoid Being Overwhelmed

Shopping the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale can be overwhelming, especially if this is your first time shopping it.

We all want to buy our clothes, shoes and accessories for the least amount possible. As I always recommend to my Classy Yet Trendy readers…shop with purpose to keep down debt. Here’s what to keep in mind when shopping not only this sale but whenever you do shop:

• Shop For Missing Items In Your Wardrobe – Do you need a pair of colored jeans for your wardrobe? Are you looking to add a gray cardigan or camel sweater to your core closet essentials? The 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale will more than likely have what you are looking for.

• Replace Items That Are Worn – Go through your closet and remove any items that are worn or need replacing. If your skinny jeans are a bit worn and you need a replacement pair, shop the sale at discounted prices!

• Buy Only 1 To 5 Trending Items Per Season – While I utilize my core closet essentials in my capsule wardrobe each season, I like to add 1 to 5 trending items to keep my wardrobe fresh. The 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the perfect opportunity to add a few on-trend items at discounted prices!
