Loft Try-On Session

Since the weather is getting warmer, Summer will be here soon. Being that I live in the South (northeast Alabama), our Summer season starts early. So, around mid-May the temps start to reach the 80’s. And, before we know it, humidity follows, which leads to makeup melting off the face because it’s so HOT!

Because Summer will be here soon, I’ve starting planning what I want to include in my Summer capsule wardrobe. I’ll probably include several pieces from my Summer 2019 capsule, but want to include more linen fabrics and neutral colors in my Summer capsule. I’ve found that since I have been using a capsule wardrobe for a few years now, I’m picky when it comes to keeping clothes. If I don’t absolutely love it, I don’t keep it! That mindset helps me save money, plus keep a lean closet!

Loft has been having great sales lately, so I ordered a few items and they arrived yesterday. I tried them on and took a few photos to share with you all!

For size reference, I am 5’9″. For tops, I typically wear a size Medium or Large, depending on the brand and style of the top (slim fit I usually wear a Large). For bottoms, my normal size is a size 10. My shoe size is 9.

I needed a pair of black shorts and I found these 6″ Riviera Shorts. I ordered my usual size 10 and they fit perfectly. Loft has several colors to choose from. The sizes are limited on the 6″, but they do have the 4″ Riviera Shorts and the 8″ Riviera Shorts. I tried on the shorts with the Button Trim Cropped White Tee. While the cropped tee fit well, I don’t feel like the style is for me. I ordered sized up to a Large, since it was a fitted style, and it fit well.

Here’s another look at the Button Trim Cropped White Tee, sized up to a Large. I paired it with my Madewell 10″ High Rise Jeans and Avarcas Pons Sandals in “tan” in my Spring Neutral Capsule Wardrobe. It’s a cute top to wear by itself, under a kimono (see below), with a skirt or in the Summer with shorts.

I tried on this Garden Kimono in a beautiful floral pattern. I’m wearing the M/L size. The pattern has a soft blue, pink, peach and latte colors. I can’t wait to wear this kimono in the Summer!

I ordered this Signature V-Neck Cardigan in “coral” (below) and “navy” (next photo) to wear at church. I’ve been needing a couple of shorter cardigans to wear with my dresses and pants to church and I found these two that are so pretty. I’m wearing the coral cardigan with my Chiffon Inset Cami, Madewell 10″ High Rise Jeans and Black D’Orsay Flats. I’m wearing my normal size Medium.

Here is the Signature V-Neck Cardigan in “navy”. The material is so soft! I ordered my usual size Medium and it fits perfectly.

The last piece I ordered and tried on is this Ribbed Cap Sleeve Sweater. Since it is a slim style, I sized up to a Large and it fit perfectly. This top is my favorite! There’s something about the softness of the material, the simple design and the whisper white color that I just love! I’m wearing it with my Madewell 10″ High Rise Jeans and Nisolo Huarache Sandals in “almond”.

Which pieces did I keep?

6″ Riviera Shorts: I love how these shorts fit. Since I am tall, I like the longer 6″ inseam.

Garden Kimono: I can’t wait to wear this kimono this Summer with my shorts and skirts. I can even wear it to church with pants or over a dress.

Signature V-Neck Cardigan in “navy” & “coral”: I needed these cardigans and am glad they both fit well.

Ribbed Cap Sleeve Sweater: This was a piece I found online that I didn’t “need” but now I can’t wait to include it in my Summer capsule wardrobe! It’s an essential piece that you can wear many ways.

Lately, I have found myself gravitating toward simple designs and neutral colors, much influenced by the French Minimalist capsule wardrobe eBook series. I feel that my preferences in fashion for me personally is changing. For several years, I have put much thought into what clothes I buy and am very selective in what I add to my closet. I absolutely love using a capsule wardrobe in my closet. It has sparked me to keep things tidy in my home and prevents unnecessary spending!

  1. Thank you, Leanne! I’m just wondering in the Riviera shorts whether to order curvy or modern fit? I’m not really sure what the difference would look like on me. Which ones did you order?

    Thank you!

  2. Judy,

I ordered the “Curvy” size 10. The curvy fits my hips better. The “Modern” is more of a straight style.
