Straight Leg Jeans Review + J. Crew & Madewell Dressing Room Try-On Session

This year, retailers started their Black Friday Sales early, which has made it so much easier to shop the sales! I have been searching for a couple pairs of straight leg jeans for my closet. A couple of weeks ago, I shared a try-on session that included a few pairs of non-skinny jeans. Straight jeans are on-trend this Fall as a great alternative to Skinny jeans. My first jeans love is skinny jeans as you can wear almost any style of top with them, but the straight jeans I tried on from Madewell are really growing on me!

Today, I’m sharing with you all what I ordered and tried on from J. Crew and Madewell. My Madewell order included several pairs of non-skinny jeans, which I was excited to try on! I liked nearly every pair of jeans I tried on, so it is going to be difficult to choose which ones I want to keep.

For size reference, I am 5’9″ in height. For tops, I typically wear a size Medium or Large, depending on the brand and style of the top (slim fit I usually wear a Large). For bottoms, my normal size is a size 10. My shoe size is 9.

Let’s start with the jeans reviews…

The first pair I tried on were these Perfect Vintage Jeans in Rosabelle Wash (size 30). This pair I tried on has distressing just above the knee and a raw hem. They also have similar jeans in the Enmore Wash with no distressing. This is my most favorite pair of Madewell Jeans I tried on. Madewell’s Perfect Vintage Jeans series are a straight leg style and has a slim tapered leg. The leg is slender but not baggy, which has a more relaxed look than skinny jeans. The fit is perfect and I highly recommend these jeans! I tried on this long sleeve white tee (size Large) I bought the other day for my Winter capsule wardrobe. It has a rounded hem, which is a great layering pieces underneath sweaters and sweatshirts! The CZ silver pendant necklace I’m wearing is new and is only $39! I want the gold one too! These Sam Edelman Linnie Black Mules (size 9) I am wearing from my own Fall 2020 neutral capsule wardrobe are so comfy.

I really like these Perfect Vintage Jeans in Maplewood Wash (size 30). These jeans seemed a tad bit longer than the pair above. These would be great to wear with ankle boots or tall boots. They fit the same as the pair above and I like the darker denim wash. This denim wash will look great with nearly any top, especially lighter color tops.

These Perfect Vintage Jeans in Ainsworth Wash (size 30) are similar to the Maplewood Wash jeans above, but has a lighter wash on the upper leg and a frayed hem. I really like the denim wash on these jeans and the raw hem looks great with ankle boots (see the jeans with the Shaker Stitch Mock Neck Sweater (size Large) and Sloan Ankle Boots (size 9) photo below)!

Next, is this pair of Classic Straight Jeans in Nearwood Wash (size 30). These jeans are different from the Perfect Vintage Jeans series in that they have a bit more relaxed roomier leg. The hem falls just above the ankle, which is great for wearing with flats, casual sneakers or booties.

This pair of Curvy Stovepipe Jeans in Leman Wash (size 30) are so soft and have a bit of stretch to them! I should have ordered the regular Stovepipe Jeans in Leman Wash as the ones I tried on below were a bit loose on me in the waist. I love the denim wash on these! The leg is a straight style but with a slightly tapered leg.

This pair of Cali Demi Boot Jeans in Lockwood Wash (size 30) would look great with ankle boots for the Fall and Winter! They are a straight leg jean style with a slight flare leg, which accentuates your legs. The denim wash on these jeans is so pretty!

Now for the J. Crew try-ons! I’m wearing a few of the Madewell jeans above.

This Puff Sleeve Jersey Tee (size Large) is so pretty! The gray color I tried on is currently out of stock, but the black color I tried on below is in stock. I hope they restock the gray color because the gray tone is so pretty. This top has a straight hem and falls just below my waist so you can wear it half tucked like I did in the photo or leave it untucked. I’m wearing this top with the Classic Straight Jeans in Nearwood Wash.

This Alpaca-blend Crewneck Sweater (size Large) is gorgeous and fits perfectly! I’m wearing it in the “oatmeal multi hthr” color and it comes in other colors too. The yarn is in faint multi colors which is so pretty (see closeup photo below). I love the stitching detail around the necklace, around the wrists and the hemline. This sweater is pretty by itself, but would also look great with a tee or shirt underneath. The alpaca blend is soft but warm, perfect for the cold Winter temps. This Margot Crewneck Sweater in the “hthr carbon” color (size Large) is a classic essential for your closet. I tried on the Camel color in this Grayson, Shopbop, J. Crew, Amazon Try-On Session post several weeks ago. It’s available in several colors to choose from! It’s similar to their Tippi Sweater, but with full-length sleeves where Tippi has 3/4 length sleeves. I have the Tippi Sweater in black and I recommend that one too! I ordered this Tartan Scarf in the “vintage champagne multi” color and love the red plaid color. If you need scarves and beanies, I recommend this Cable-knit Pointelle Scarf and matching leopard beanie and the Leopard Print Scarf in Supersoft Yarn and matching cable knit beanie.

I really like this Cozy Cotton Terry Turtleneck in the “hthr camel” color (size Large). You can wear the turtleneck straight or folded down. I have it folded down in the first photo below and folded down in the 2nd photo below. This is a comfy top you can wear with jeans and it is long enough in the back to wear with leggings. It comes in other colors too and I also like the ivory and charcoal colors. The dark spruce color is a gorgeous shade of emerald green! I meant to order this Tissue Black Stripe Turtleneck last year, but didn’t, so I’m glad to see it is back again this year! I think this is one of J. Crew’s classic essentials and will be a great addition to your closet. You can wear this so many ways: dressed casual with jeans, with pants or skirts and even with leggings since it long enough.
