When it comes to t-shirts, there are SO MANY styles, cuts and fits! I found over the years that I am very picky when it comes to tees. When we buy a tee, we want one that:
- flatters our body shape
- is the right length
- is a good color for our skin tone
- is not see-through
- a great style
Wow, that’s a lot of requirements when it comes to a tee isn’t it?! Since a tee is such as simple piece of clothes that you can wear in many outfits, it’s important that it meets all our needs to make it a great t-shirt.
I have tried lots of brands and styles of tees over the years. While some have come close to being the perfect tee, I absolutely love the ones I ordered the other day from J Crew Factory and I had to share them with you all who may be looking to buy a tee!
For size reference, I am 5’9″ and typically wear a Medium or Large in tops and a size 10 in jeans and pants. I wear a size 9 in shoes. For J Crew Factory clothes, I wear a size 30 in their jeans and a size Large in their tops.
Since we are all staying indoors right now and dressing comfortable, I thought it was a great time to try the Vintage Cotton V-Neck Tee. I ordered a few in black, white, gray and navy colors. I had a hunch that these would be good, so the colors I wear the most, all neutral colors. When I tried on the first one, I knew this was the tee I had been looking for. Right now these are on sale for $12.00! I ordered my usual size in J Crew Factory tops, which is a size Large.

This is what I love about these tees:
- The Fit – they are a straight fit but not slouchy. The arms don’t stand out and are just long enough to cover your arms.
- Perfect V-Neck – I find that a v-neck is more flattering on me personally, so I’m naturally drawn to this style of tee. The cut of the v-neck is just right, not too deep.
- Length – This tee comes to the bottom of my hips, which provides enough length to either tuck in or leave untucked for a neat look.
- Not See-Through – The white tee is not sheer, but yet the material isn’t totally thick. As with all white tees, I recommend wearing a nude color bra.
- Love the Colors – Sometimes a gray tee can be too dark or too light; this gray tee is just the right color. The white tee isn’t stark white, but a soft white.
How To Care For Your Tees
When it comes to washing and drying my tees, I recommend washing them in COLD water. I hang all my clothes to dry that I wear. I never dry my clothes in dryer. The dryer breaks down the fibers in the material and sometimes shrinks the clothes. This extends the life of your clothes, thus saving you money in the long run! I usually wear my clothes twice before I wash them, unless it Summer and humid outside, which extends the life of your clothes as well.

A few months ago, one of the readers of the blog emailed me and let me know how much she likes wearing the Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Jeans (several styles to choose from!). I was looking for a pair of white pants and saw that Nordstrom had these Ab-Solution High Waist Skinny Pants, so I ordered them in the “optic white” color. OMG, I loved them and they fit so well, that I included them in my Spring capsule wardrobe! I knew then why that reader recommended them to me! I’m wearing the Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Ankle Skimmer Jeans in “light blue” in the photo above and OMG ya’ll, they are a great-fitting jean! I ordered my usual size which is a size 10. They have a band around the inside at the top of the jeans that hold the jeans in place (what a ingenious idea!). They are a skinny jean, but they don’t cling to your legs like some skinny jeans do. I love the ankle length, which elongates your legs and draws your eyes down to your shoes. Ya’ll, this a great brand of pants and jeans (they have other clothes as well). Check out their shorts, as they have longer length styles!

Madewell Perfect Vintage Raw Hem Jeans Review
I loved the color, texture and raw hem detail of these jeans, but they were too long and the denim material was a bit too thick for me personally. They fit well on my hips and thighs in my normal size 30. They remind me of Levi’s jeans, so if you like the Levi’s brand, you may like this pair of jeans. Unfortunately, these didn’t work for me, so I returned them.

Nisolo Ama Woven Mules Review
I received the Nisolo Ama Woven Mules the other day in the mail to review. I’ll admit that I have been wanting these shoes for about a year now as they are a gorgeous shoe and also made by Nisolo, which is a sustainable and ethical company. They fit perfect in my normal size 9 and the color of the woven leather is even more gorgeous in person! This shoe is bit of an investment, but they are well-made and I know a few other bloggers, like Paige from Style This Life, Emily from Emily Henderson and Caroline from UnFancy, that have been wearing Nisolo shoes for years and still love wearing them.

I also ordered this White Eyelet-Embroidered Puff-Sleeve Top, size Large (shown below). Online the material looked a bit more thicker than what is was like when I received it. It’s actually a lightweight cotton top. I was wanting this top for my Summer capsule wardrobe, but not sure if I will keep it. It is definately a pretty top and worth keeping, but I’m wanting a top with more of a thicker cotton material.

I am happy to see you like the Ab-solution jeans! They are fantastic, aren’t they? I have to buy them one size smaller than my usual for the fit to be just right. Wit & Wisdom also has a “itty bitty boot cut” with a super flattering, lengthening leg style. I wear them with tall wedges in summer and pointy, heeled booties in winter. FYI, Nordstrom Rack carries “Democracy” brand “Ab-solution” jeans that are identical to the W&W and priced $10 to $15 lower.
I love all your recommendations and it really helps that we are the same size!
I’ve been eyeing the Nisolo mules as well… Another blogger I like wears them (cottenstem). Do you know if they ever go on sale?
I LOVE the mules but they are so expensive. I try to not spend any more than 100.00 on a pair of shoes. 178.00 is too much for me but wow they are so cute and I bet very well made
I give these t-shirts a thumbs up. I’m with you on finding a white tee that’s not see-through! I’ve also had some trouble finding tees that are the right length and have a natural fit that is not too snug. These work well.

I bought a size Large in the Vintage Cotton V-Neck tees from J Crew Factory. I wear either a medium or large in tops, depending on the brand. With J Crew Factory, I usually wear a Large in tops.
Hi Leanne. I am excited about the J Crew t-shirts. The gray one looks a little more low cut than the others. Are they all the same brand and same size? I am a school teacher so I have to be very careful about showing too much!
