My 28-Piece Spring 2020 Capsule Wardrobe

|

See all the clothes and shoes in my Spring 2020 Capsule Wardrobe, find out how I created it for my closet so that I will get dressed quickly everyday and have many outfit possibilities!

When we started having a few days of Spring temperatures, I knew I needed to switch out my closet from my Winter capsule wardrobe to my Spring capsule wardrobe! A couple of weeks ago I created my capsule wardrobe and am sharing it with you all.

In case you are new here at Classy Yet Trendy®, I’m Leanne and I’m the creator and administrator of this site. I have been using a capsule wardrobe since 2014 and consider myself a bit of a pro when it comes to creating capsule wardrobes! I publish several Seasonal Capsule Wardrobes, along with the best selling Women’s Simplified Style®: A Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe, and now the Men’s Simplified Style® eBook. I not only create the capsule wardrobe eBooks for many women around the world, but I also create and use my own personal capsule wardrobe in my closet. Each season, I share with you all what clothes and shoes are in my capsule wardrobe. You can see all my personal capsule wardrobes here!

In 2017, I quit my Accounting Controller career to work full-time at helping women with their capsule wardrobes! Since I work at home now, I wear clothes that are elevated-casual, much like the style in the Teacher Capsule Wardrobe series.

In deciding what clothes I wanted in my Spring capsule wardrobe, first I chose my base color, which is the first step in my post, How To Create a Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide.  I decided to have NAVY as my base color.  Then, I picked 3 accents colors: blush, yellow and olive

Be sure to see my outfits that I post on my Instagram! Throughout the season, I share several outfits that I wear from my capsule wardrobe.

Here’s is my entire Spring 2020 capsule wardrobe in one of the closets in my house:

I included mostly core closet essentials, plus a few new and trending clothes and shoes.

Using mostly core closet essentials in your capsule wardrobe:
* utilizes clothes you already have in your closet
* will coordinate with many other pieces making dozens of outfits
* save you money since you limit your spending!

A few years ago I didn’t use a capsule wardrobe.  My closet used to be a complete mess!  You can see what my closet looked like, at the top of every eBook sales page in the Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store (at the top of the Teacher Spring 2020 eBook page). I had too many clothes that didn’t coordinate, clothes that didn’t fit and clothes with colors that didn’t look good on me.  I even had bad shopping habits!  I would buy an outfit…a top and bottom that would go together, not really thinking how I could wear the pieces with other clothes in my closet.  Plus, I loved to go clothes shopping.  When I was bored or having a bad day, I would go shopping and always felt like I had to buy “something” to feel good.  Shopping lead to a high credit card bill, so I was in DEBT.

I’m so glad I started using a “capsule wardrobe”, because use a capsule wardrobe system helps me look great and I always have dozens of outfits ready to wear, I look great and feel better about myself, plus I shop with purpose for everything now, not only for clothes, but for household goods, furniture, you name it!).  Having a capsule wardrobe literally changed my shopping habits for everything.  I think twice before buying anything now, saving me hundreds of dollars every year!  I’m so passionate about capsule wardrobes, that I publish Complete Wardrobe Plans each season, all in the Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store.

Now onto my capsule wardrobe!  I have 28 items in my Spring 2020 capsule wardrobe.  My capsule wardrobe is based mostly on the Teacher Spring 2020 eBook, along with a few items that I already had in my closet.

I created my capsule wardrobe using my capsule wardrobe process, which you can see here in this blog post, How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide.

Capsule Wardrobe Storage & Equipment

I use wooden hangers to hang my clothes in my capsule wardrobe. I’m asked if I hang the sweaters in my capsule on the hangers…Yes, I do! Wooden hangers are gentle on your sweaters and don’t stretch the shoulders, unlike plastic hangers. I use the Ikea Bumerang Natural Color Wood Hangers and LOVE them! I also really like these Wal-Mart Wood Hangers, where you get 20 for $12.99! For my clothes that are in my closet that are not in my capsule wardrobe, I hang them on these velvet hangers in “white”.  If you have limited space to store your off-season clothes, I recommend this Large Storage Bin with Snap Lid. These bins are stackable too!

  1. I’ve really enjoyed your posts about the capsule wardrobe, I feel we have a similar style, so I’m really enjoying seein the outfits you put together. I think I’m going to try a capsule for this spring. I’m a little stuck on the “rules” though. How do you decide when you switch to the next season? How strict are you in sticking within the capsule? Do you ever grab something to wear that isn’t from the current season’s capsule? We live in a cold climate and our spring is usually cold and lasts well into May. But, there’s the occasional warm day tossed in. Thanks for the ideas so far!

  2. Kellie,

Thank you for your comment and questions! I switch out my season capsules when the weather starts to change to another season. I stick to my capsule everyday, except on Sundays, which is my “free day”. I change things up a bit when dressing for church, but it seems I always grab a piece or two from my capsule to wear in my church outfits. Maybe I need to create a church capsule too!

  3. Love everything about it! Do you plan to develop an e-book as guide on outfit combinations for this 28-piece set? I have not tried this approach before, but excited to give it a go!

  4. Hello Leanne,
Thank you for sharing this 8-Piece Spring 2020 Capsule Wardrobe. It’s very helpful.
Do you have a collection outfits for these pieces?

    Thank you!
    Sophie

  5. Since this is my own capsule wardrobe, I don’t have a guide of outfits. Since my capsule is based mostly on the Teacher Spring 2020 capsule wardrobe eBook, you can get your copy in the eBook Store. It includes 100 outfits!

  6. I’ve never used a capsule wardrobe before but I keep coming back to the idea because my closet is full of clothes I don’t wear. My style is a combination/mix of the Workwear and Teacher capsule wardrobes. How do you suggest making that work? I don’t have to be as dressy as the workwear, nor as casual as the teacher. I need a blend of the two,

  7. I love these posts and was also wondering what YOUR capsule looked like since you have to shop so many different ones. If it was me I’d keep them all, but that kinda defeats the purpose. haha 🙂

I noticed on your Instagram that you have bought some red pieces as well. Do you plan to mix those into the Spring capsule or are you waiting to wear these until Summer? Do you not have any dresses or skirts in your own capsule?

  8. Regarding the idea of a “church capsule”, I like the Essential capsule wardrobe because it includes a dress and skirt that can be used for church. Instead of creating an entire new and separate capsule, perhaps consider simply adding an optional dress or skirt to each capsule (dresses seem fairly stand-alone anyway, but you find lovely options). Stay at home moms who dress casually during the week, for example, might still like a church option for the weekend 🙂
    Just a thought-

I do appreciate the separate blogs you’ve created for Easter and Christmas outfits!

  9. Can you check your links please? I clicked on a few Old Navy pieces and am getting an error.

  10. Hi Leanne absolutely love your spring capsule wardrobe brilliantly laid out and easy to understand.
Leanne I try and keep a wardrobe for “going out” just a few special more expensive items but I am not sure how many items to keep here, I seem to have more here than everyday, could you help me please…….? With this separate capsule wardrobe, please also a separate leisurewear wardrobe could you help with this please many thanks Jackie
