Try-On Reviews: Talbots Hampshire Pants & Relaxed Chinos

A few weeks before I switch my capsule wardrobe to the new season, I start planning my capsule. I decide what basic essentials I will be including and if I will be using a neutral color palette or adding accent colors. For my Spring 2021 capsule wardrobe, which is based on the French Minimalist Spring 2021 Capsule Wardrobe (but customized for my lifestyle), I wanted to add a pair of chinos and a pair of beige pants. I really like both of those pants styles and the beige color is a great neutral color that coordinates well with other pieces in a capsule wardrobe. I bought the Talbots Relaxed Chinos in the “sand castle” color a couple of weeks ago and you can see them in this Try-On Session: Loft, J. Crew Factory, Talbots and Banana Republic Factory.

I have seen several fashion bloggers on Instagram wearing Zara pants, so I thought I would order a few pairs of pants to see how they would fit: High-Waist Pants in “taupe brown”, High-Waist Pants in “oyster white” and Seamed Cigarette Pants in “sand”, all in size Large, my normal size. I had never tried on anything from Zara so I was curious about the fit and quality of material. When they arrived, I was impressed by how well made they were and the styles were so pretty. They fit well in the legs and thighs, but I couldn’t even zip them up! After reading a few reviews online about Zara styles, the recommendation was to size up since their styles are made smaller. I didn’t reorder them in a larger size, because I was afraid the legs would be too wide.

I have an hourglass shape so sometimes it is difficult to find pants to fit. They will either fit well in the waist and the legs will be too tight or the legs will fit perfect and the waist will be too tight. When I’m buying jeans, skinny jeans and slim straight jeans will fit my body shape the best, but when it comes to pants, it’s a bit more tricky to get the right fit.

So, since the Zara pants didn’t fit, I was back to square one. Then, I thought about how well the Talbots chinos fit, so I looked online and saw the Hampshire Ankle Pants. I ordered my usual size 10 in both the Hampshire Ankle Pants “fawn” color in the regular fit and the Hampshire Ankle Pants “fawn” color in the curvy fit.

In this post, I’m trying on the Hampshire Ankle Pants “fawn” color in the regular fit, the Hampshire Ankle Pants “fawn” color in the curvy fit and trying on the Relaxed Chinos in the “sand castle” color so you can compare the styles of the pants.

For size reference, I am 5’9″ in height. For tops, I typically wear a size Medium or Large, depending on the brand and style of the top (slim fit I usually wear a Large). For bottoms, my normal size is a size 10. My shoe size is a 9 medium width.

Hampshire Ankle Pants – Regular Fit

First, I tried on the Hampshire Ankle Pants “fawn” color in the regular fit in my usual size 10. They fit perfectly and the color is so pretty, perfect for Spring. Here are the details about the pants:

What I like about these pants is that you can wear them dressy or casual. They fit just right in the waist and are slightly loose throughout the leg. I like that these are ankle pants and that they look great with flats and heels.

Hampshire Ankle Pants – Curvy Fit

The Hampshire Ankle Pants “fawn” color in the curvy fit is a bit more relaxed in the legs than the regular fit pants. Both pants fit nearly the same in the waist, but the curvy fit was slightly relaxed through the hips. If you like a bit of a loose leg style, then you’ll love the curvy fit pants.

Relaxed Chinos Pants

The Talbots Relaxed Chinos in the “sand castle” color (size 10) are definitely a relaxed pant. I love the look of the roll hem, but you can also roll them down for a regular look. The khaki color on these is so pretty! The fit is spot on in the waist and hips and relaxed throughout the leg. When unrolled at the hem, the hem falls at the ankle. The fabric seems to resist wrinkles. I haven’t worn all day them yet, so I will know once I wear them while working at my desk. I highly recommend these chinos!
