My 29-Piece Fall 2023 Classic Neutral Capsule Wardrobe In My Closet
See everything in my own capsule wardrobe, which includes tops, bottoms, layers and shoes, in mostly neutral colors. My capsule wardrobe is based on the Simplified Style®: Classic Casual Capsule Wardrobe. I’m showing everything in my own personal capsule wardrobe in my closet, here on the blog.
For those of you that follow the Classy Yet Trendy blog, you know that I have been using a capsule wardrobe in my closet for several years. I absolutely love using a capsule wardrobe every season, as it helps me get dressed quickly and easily everyday. A capsule wardrobe is a small set of clothes and shoes, which all mix and match, so you can have dozens of outfit combinations ready to wear. Using a capsule wardrobe lets you focus on more important things in your life and takes the stress away from getting dressed.
My full-time job is administering Classy Yet Trendy, as the sole person who does everything while working at home. Since I work at home, I like to wear elevated-casual styles like jeans and casual pants, tops and layers. My job everyday consists of: working at my desk, doing photo sessions of clothes and shoes, moving about creating flatlays for Instagram, etc., so dresses and skirts are not feasible for my work-week lifestyle. On Sundays, I do wear skirts and dresses to church, in addition to wearing outfits from my capsule wardrobe since everyone dresses casual at our church.
Living in Alabama, our Fall season is usually a short one. Our Summer temperatures last through most of September, with several of those days being mild. We will have days of crisp weather, then days of warm weather, so some days will call for just for short sleeves and others I will need to wear a jacket.

My Color Palette
For this Fall season, I chose “black” as the base color for my capsule wardrobe. I chose black as my own personal preference, so if you are referencing this post to create your capsule wardrobe for the Fall season, feel free to use your favorite neutral base color.
The capsule wardrobes I share from my own closet every season, are clothes that I have in my own closet and goes with my personal style. Everyone has their own personal style as well as color preference in clothes and is based on the weather where you live, so your capsule wardrobe may be different from mine. What Is My Personal Style?
My first and foremost favorite style is “Classic” with a bit of “French Minimalist” style, which includes solid color tees, button-down shirts, casual pants, jeans, cardigans, denim jackets, loafers, mules and flats. What is “classic” style? Classic style includes timeless designs that stand the test of time, never go out of fashion and are mostly solid, neutral colors. I love the simplicity of classic styles and I enjoy wearing this style the most. I create French Minimalist capsule wardrobes every season…see them here!
How Did I Create This Capsule Wardrobe?

When I create a capsule wardrobe, I select my tops first, but you can also start building your capsule by choosing bottoms or shoes first! Here is my capsule wardrobe on the clothes rack in my studio room.

I have 6 bottoms in my Fall capsule. Since I work from home, I dress casual and wear jeans and pants. For my jeans, I prefer soft, stretchy jeans that hold their shape, to bend and move in them easily.

Tell me about the hangars. Do you always use wood and do the sweaters stretch in the shoulders from being hung on a hanger? Love this wardrobe. I have done the capsule wardrobe a few times and it makes life easy. Living in a tropical climate I find that I wear dresses or skirts in the summer to stay cooler. Even though I’m retired I still wear skirts now and then, but after looking at your post, I think I need to gravitate back to a capsule wardrobe. I do love your classy style!

I love using wood hangers for my capsule wardrobe! I only use wood hangers with my capsule wardrobe and use the regular velvet-style for the rest of my clothes in my closet. The reason I use wood hangers, is they holds the shape of my tops and sweaters and gives my clothes a cohesive, plus my sweaters don’t stretch out on them. I bought mine several years ago at IKEA. I love this capsule! Could you put together variations of the outfits?
Next summer could you do a Southern Charm capsule with pink, white, and navy as the base? Perhaps some gingham in pink or navy or a nice micro-floral. I guess the base brand could be Belk. Coastal grandmother in the south?

Could you recommend some shoes that fit a wider foot? I like the sam edelman style but my feet can’t squeeze into them.

I love the fall wardrobe. I decluttered and cut my wardrobe in half. I already had some of the basic items in my closet. J.Crew had a 50% off sale and I got new sweaters. Love the neutrals!
Just need to get new hangers for a more cohesive look.
