See everything in my own Winter 2020 capsule wardrobe, including neutral color tops, bottoms, layers and shoes, based on the Simplified Style® capsule wardrobe. It is a mix of casual & athleisure pieces to create a comfy and cozy Winter capsule wardrobe!
For those of you that are readers of the Classy Yet Trendy blog, you know that I have been using a capsule wardrobe in my closet for several years. I absolutely love using a capsule wardrobe every season and know my favorite items that I enjoy wearing. I am so passionate about capsule wardrobes that I made it my full-time job to not only blog about capsule wardrobes, but create seasonal capsule wardrobes (in the Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store) for women all over the world!
If you are a reader of this blog, you know that I create my own personal capsule wardrobe every season and share them all here on the blog (here are all of my own previous capsules). To create my own personal capsule wardrobes, I “shop my closet” first, then shop at retailers for any pieces I need.
For my Winter 2020 capsule wardrobe, I am experimenting with a casual/athleisure combination capsule, which is a mix of casual style (jeans, tees, cardigans and sweaters), plus athleisure style (leggings, joggers, pullover, vests and a hoodie.. I have found myself loving neutral colors for the past several months, so I included tops, bottoms, layers and shoes in all neutral colors! You may recall my Spring 2020 Neutral Capsule Wardrobe, my first neutral capsule. I absolutely loved that one and enjoyed all the outfits I created from it. I enjoyed my Fall 2020 Neutral Capsule Wardrobe, especially the styles of shoes!
I created my all-neutral capsule based on my eBook, using several pieces from the women’s Simplified Style®: A Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe with a mix of athleisure pieces for a comfy and cozy Winter capsule! In Simplified Style®, there are 450+ outfit combinations for the entire year, with wardrobes and outfits for each season of the year.

Simplified Style®: A Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe
You can use this same capsule wardrobe for your closet! From time to time, some readers will write to me asking, “Will I get tired of wearing neutral colors all the time?“, or “How I can I add color to my neutral outfits?” Since neutral color basic essentials are the core items in your closet that we use in all our outfits, chances are you may not get tired of wearing them, but if you want to change things up a bit, you can add some color by adding colorful handbags and accessories, like jewelry and scarves! For more on this, see the blog post, “3 Ways To Wear Neutral Colors (and not look boring)“.
How Did I Create This Neutral Capsule Wardrobe?
I created this neutral capsule wardrobe based on the capsule from my eBook, Simplified Style®: A Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe. I also followed the 5 steps in my blog post, How To Start A Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide (since this is an all-neutral capsule, I omitted Step 3). You can also download, print and use this Capsule Wardrobe In 5-Steps guide sheet to help create your capsule wardrobe, which is on the Capsule Wardrobe Tools page.
First, I chose BLACK as my base color. Then, I selected a few tops, bottoms and layers in gray, white and beige. I also added a few pieces in neutral patterns.
Can You Have Patterns In An All-Neutral Wardrobe?
Yes absolutely! The patterns add interest to your outfits, but because they have neutral colors in the patterns, they will coordinate with your solid color clothes. Patterns like stripes, plaids, leopard print or snake print work beautifully in your wardrobe.
What’s In My Neutral Capsule Wardrobe?
Here’s everything in my Casual/Athleisure All-Neutral Capsule Wardrobe…
Let’s start with the clothes. Anytime you create a capsule wardrobe, I recommend choosing the tops and bottoms first. Then, add a few layer pieces (weather permitting), like cardigans, vests, jackets and coats. Since I work at home, I only need light layers, like cardigans, vests, a zip hoodie. I will add a jacket or coat from my closet when I run errands, go to the grocery store or out to eat.

Tops & Layers
I added the leopard pattern long sleeve top, striped long sleeve tees and leopard pattern fleece vest to add some interest to my outfits. Since leopard is a neutral pattern of neutral colors, they coordinate well in this capsule! See the blog post, “3 Ways To Wear Neutral Colors (and not look boring)” to find out more how to add patterns to your neutral capsule.
