My 32-Piece Summer 2020 Capsule Wardrobe
See all the clothes and shoes in my own Summer 2020 Capsule Wardrobe and find out how I created it for my closet so that I can get dressed quickly everyday and have many outfits!
I changed out my capsule wardrobe in my closet from my Spring capsule wardrobe to my Summer capsule wardrobe! A couple of weeks ago I created my capsule wardrobe and am sharing what’s in it with you all.
If you are new here at Classy Yet Trendy®, I’m Leanne, the creator and administrator of this site. I have been using a capsule wardrobe since 2014 and consider myself a bit of a pro when it comes to creating capsule wardrobes! I publish several Seasonal Capsule Wardrobes, along with the best selling Women’s Simplified Style®: A Year-Round Core Closet Essentials Capsule Wardrobe and the Men’s Simplified Style® eBook. I not only create the capsule wardrobe eBooks for many women around the world, but I also create and use my own personal capsule wardrobe in my closet.
Every season I create my own personal capsule wardrobe and here on the blog I share with you all everything in my capsule. You can see all my previous capsule wardrobes here!
In 2017, I quit my Accounting Controller career to work full-time on Classy Yet Trendy and create capsule wardrobes for women to use around the world! Since I work at home now, I wear clothes that are elevated-casual. My personal style is much like the much like the French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe series.
Capsule Wardrobe Base Color
In deciding what clothes I wanted in my Summer capsule wardrobe, first I chose my base color, which is the first step in my post, How To Create a Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide. I decided to have Black as my base color. Then, I added clothes in 2 accent colors that I call “redwood” and “fern”. The redwood color is deeper than coral but lighter than a brick red. The fern color is lighter than olive and the tone will work well in a Summer wardrobe.
Be sure to see my outfits that I post on my Instagram! Throughout the season, I share several outfits that I wear from my capsule wardrobe.
Here’s is my entire Summer 2020 capsule wardrobe in one of the closets in my house:
I included mostly core closet essentials, plus a few new and trending clothes and shoes.
Using mostly core closet essentials in your capsule wardrobe:
* utilizes clothes you already have in your closet
* coordinates with many other pieces making dozens of outfits
* saves you money since you limit your spending!
If you are limited on space, you can keep your capsule wardrobe on a clothes rack like the one shown above! In the photo above, I hung my tops and pants on the top rack, then on the middle rack I stacked my shorts and placed two pairs of sandals next to them. On the bottom rack, I have the rest of my sandals. I fit all 32 pieces of my capsule wardrobe on this compact clothing rack!
Here’s a few clothing racks you may like:

A few years ago I didn’t use a capsule wardrobe. My closet used to be a complete mess! You can see what my closet looked like, at the top of every eBook sales page in the Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store (at the top of the French Minimalist Summer 2020 page). I had too many clothes that didn’t coordinate, clothes that didn’t fit and clothes with colors that didn’t look good on me. I even had bad shopping habits! I would buy an outfit…a top and bottom that would go together, not really thinking how I could wear the pieces with other clothes in my closet. Plus, I loved to shop! When I was bored or having a bad day, I would go shopping and always felt like I had to buy “something” to feel good emotionally. Shopping lead to a high credit card bill, so I was in DEBT.

I’m so glad I started using a “capsule wardrobe”, because using a capsule wardrobe system means I always have dozens of outfits ready to wear, I look great and feel better about myself, plus I shop with purpose for everything now, not only for clothes, but for household goods, furniture, you name it! Having a capsule wardrobe literally changed my shopping habits for everything! I think twice before buying anything now, saving me hundreds of dollars every year. I’m so passionate about capsule wardrobes, that I publish Complete Wardrobe Plans each season, all available in the Capsule Wardrobe eBook Store for you to use in your closet!
Now onto my capsule wardrobe! I have 32 items in my Summer 2020 capsule wardrobe. My capsule wardrobe is based mostly on the French Minimalist Summer 2020 collection, plus a few items that I already had in my closet.

I created my personal capsule wardrobe using my capsule wardrobe process, which you can see here in this blog post, How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe: A 5-Step Visual Guide. Capsule Wardrobe Storage & Equipment
I use wooden hangers to hang my clothes in my capsule wardrobe. Using wooden hangers keep my tops from stretching. I use the Ikea Bumerang Natural Color Wood Hangers and LOVE them! I also really like these Wal-Mart Wood Hangers, which are similar. For my clothes that are in my closet that are not in my capsule wardrobe, I hang them on these velvet hangers. If you have limited space to store your off-season clothes, I recommend this Large Storage Bin with Snap Lid. These bins are stackable too!

Hi. I don’t see any dresses, skirts or skorts in your capsule. Is that because you don’t wear them or do you still pull from your other clothes when you’re looking for something different?
Iris,
Since I work at home, I use a casual capsule wardrobe, so I didn’t include any dresses, skirts or skorts. Sundays are my “free days” where I don’t wear my capsule wardrobe, as I wear dresses and skirts to church. I sometimes pick tops from my capsule to wear with my skirts and pants to church.
Interesting! How often do you change out your clothes for your free days and how many items are in there? Thx!
I’ve never heard of “free days”, so thanks for adding this detail.
After searching for the topic Capsule Wardrobe – I found your site. Your site is the best I’ve consulted. Any advice you might give to me – as I am in the midst of a weight loss regimen. I’ve created a minimalist summer wardrobe while I continue to lose weight. I have purchased inexpensive items that will be give-aways next summer. I want to avoid investing in a final size wardrobe in the meantime. I’ve lost 60 lbs so far, with at least another size to lose. I am rebuilding my wardrobe from scratch, as my Plus size clothes now hang on me. Do you have any micro wardrobe ideas for someone in transition to smaller sizes? Should I approach this dilemma with your French minimalist wardrobe? Thanks.
Janet,
You are taking the correct approach with your wardrobe while you are transitioning sizes, by using a minimalist wardrobe. That’s exactly what I recommend to women who are in the process of losing weight. If you have just a few basic essentials you can make many outfit combinations! Since you are in between sizes, I wouldn’t use the French Minimalist series just yet. I have several mini capsule wardrobes on my site that you can use (click on “Categories” on the top menu, then clicking on “travel/mini capsules”).
